Southern Blue Tongues?

Hello. I am new to this forum, but I have looked at it a number of times. I have a Northern, and I used this forum to help me figure out how to properly care for it. Anyway, I was in a fairly well known pet store, and I saw something that made me pause. They had a few BTS, and there was one, and it said "Southern Blue Tongue Skink". They were kind of slate gray with black outlines, like a Northern but in grayscale. All they could tell me was that they were from a different locale. Are they yanking my chain? And here is a pic of Smoot, it's a little bigger now.

Almost all bts that I see in stores are Indos.

Smoot looks great. My suggestion for finding what type of BTS it is would be to go to www.bluetongueskinks.net and look through the species pages on the right. Figure out what it was. If it doesn't look like any of them, it's probably a hybrid, but could also be an odd color mutation.

another name for Blotched blue tongue is Southern blue tongue.

I have not heard it for many years.

If you're outside Australia (in the U.S) then I suspect they're yanking your chain.

Nice looking skink you've got there,I love the white cracks on the back.In Auss they name things funny, like "A northern eastern from, the south"

Exactly...I wonder where pet stores get this information. My bet is that it's an indonesian.

Look more like an northern but a bit od to me.

dont look like any indo to me.

remember not all northerns, look like Zach and Seiks breed.

Im trying to collect photo`s of northerns, here in Denmark, but not with

much luck yet. I think, that there can bee great variations in colour and

pattern in many reptiles,

especialy in Australian reptiles, who have not been exportet sins the 70th.

I went back to the store and looked at it for a long time. It was an Indo. Quite expensive. I got Smoot for only 100 bucks at a show, and this one was far above it. And here are the head shots as requested.

Smoot is adorable. Congrats on the find. I love his eye in the first picture. Looks green. You should crop/resize the first picture and turn it into and avatar. So cute.

Did you talk to the people in the store about the skink being an indo? Most wont care, but there are a few who actually care about what they're selling.

Hey Zach, thanks for all the praise. I am a big fan of Smoot too. It was the healthiest one I saw, and had the most attitude. Really puffed up and hissed when I held it. I have to admit, I didn't know as much as I should have about BTS' when I first got Smoot, but it's a pretty quick learning curve. I have some leopard geckos, so lizards aren't too foreign to me. And as to the other post about talking to the pet store, I did a little, and they didn't seem too interested in what I had to say. It's one of those stores that care more about snakes. Sorry about how long this post it.
