BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

so i'm going to buy another bts. and i'm going to make a new cage thats 64'' long by 30'' wide.
then im going to divide half of the cage with chicken wire. so both skinks can go in the same cage. but they cant fight .

so my queston is......should i divide the cage so each skink gets sectoin 32'' long by 30'' wide or so that each skink gets a sectoin 65 '' long by 15'' wide?


and just in case you did'nt read the post carefully,i'm dividing the cage in half with chiken wire so the skinks cant fight.

I'd probably go with 32.5" by 30". Make sure you lock your cage since they'll be able to climb to the top using the chicken wire as a ladder.

I wouldnt use chicken wire. I personally would use wood or a similar material in which they can not see each other. If you happen to get 2 males and have them where they can see each other, theycould become very stressed and could possibly injure itself by biting the wire, etc.

Also, dont use chicken wire for any cages. Chicken wire is formed by twisting wire together. This increases the chance of the animal getting its toe, leg, etc caught in it. If you are going to use a wire screening, use hardware clothe (every joint is welded/soldered together, not twisted).

But to answer your question, I would make them 32.5" by 30".

I've cast my vote on the size, I'd use peg board or perspex/plexiglass or even plywood drilled for air flow if needed.

Totally agree with scrapping the chicken wire. Have you tried craigslist, garage sales, etc? Go with the 30x32 if you do go ahead and make your own. Good luck!

Plexiglas, if drilled, tapped and done properly to prevent splitting and cracking, would be cheap and far more effective. Available in both clear and opaque variants.

As far as cage size goes, I wouldn't be a fan of either sizes, one for myself, since the more square design would make getting to and from different parts a pain ergonomically, and the other size would be a bit narrow for the bluey. How about a 50"L x 22"W?

If you have the cash, it's a good way to go too. Building a cage isn't always from the ground up, many people here have ingeniously altered furniture to excellent habitats.

these are cheap reptile cages. but i might have trouble keeping the cage warm if i get a reptarium.

Reptariums are not a good bluey habitat. Cheap should be a secondary factor... which is why people modify furniture sometimes!

boaphile is a great company. That's where I got my cage from. The cages are wonderfully constructed and they're cheap.

i'm just to buy two 75 galloin tanks. one for the new skink and one for the skink i have right now(he's onily in a 40 galloin)
