BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Can BTS's eat them idont care if they cant because then they will just be pets lol. i got 5 of them yesterday can homer eat them? Can they eat the other ones two?or just the blue ones?I only got 5 just incase she does not like them.

I feed blue mystery snails to Tattoo. He seems to like the blue ones the best. Remember to keep them for 3 or 4 days to make sure they are not sick before feeding them to your skink.

mystery snails and apple snails are fine, LittleFoot only likes the yellow mystery snails (he's weird) Liek Tatoo said, make sure you keep them for several days to make sure they are healthy before you feed them.

I've been reading up on snails because i'm thinking of starting a little snail farm/tank for R.B. But i read that for human consumption you should cook them thoroughly because they can carry parasites, even if they are not sick, and show no signs of illness. Can these parasites harm skinks, and do most people cook their snails before giving them to theirs bts?

I have no personal exp with snails though, so if anyone can answer my above question that'd be great.

There is a small risk with anythingfed as a live feeder, you would end up worrying yourself to death,and starve your Bluey, if you flapped about all the negetives you hear with food, worry more about chemicals and pesticides than parasites. People should look to feed /breed land snails more, as they are a normal prey item,aquatic snails are just convenient as loads of people have a few in a fish tank, just my 2p worth.

hi, here in australia blueys live on snails iv been feeding mine snails for years.

My guys love mystery/apple snails. I've only ever seen the black and gold ones though.

i mean here in my cold corner of canada lol only snails is ee outside are tiny usual boring i have no clue what kind and i dont htink i can buy any in petsores bluetooth eats and loves butter worms (i dont they are so ewww) and caterpillars when we find some

Some pet stores offer pest free aquatic snails for feeding to other pets. You would have to enquire in the store. Also keep them for 3 to 5 days to make sure they are healthy. Most folks that use these snails have aquariums and just toss them in with their healthy fish.

lol i never seen any for sale out from the ones that clean tanks and hum they are big and hum i do have a fishtank s adly wiskcat(my catfish) is not to social >.>

Snails are kinda cool. I have pet mysteries and spixies but still no eggs. My blueys like the terrestrial varieties too. I think keeping any snails in quarantine is a good idea---but I doubt it really does much good as pesticides, toxins from leaves, or parasites will probably still remain in their tissues. I haven't seen any scientific data to prove/disprove that this "holding" is actually effective. Snails serve as intermediate hosts for several parasites and a few days in a holding tank probably does nothing to break the life cycles. That said, blueys love snails and frequently consume them in the wild. I don't know specifically of any diseases that blueys get from snails but I think Leigh is right about overanalyzing prey items. Get your snails from a reliable source, set them in a holding tank with greens for a few days, and then serve them up if you want to.
One word of caution though. Some of the elongated spiral snails (trash snails) that the petstores will give you free are so hard that they pass through undigested. I popped off the sharp ends of their shells but I would not feed these snails as I think this is too risky.

We have had a whole week of rain. Unprecedented!! With the assistance of my wonderful (and super good looking ) neighbour I was able to get 8 garden snails (Helix Aspersa). Resisting the temptation to feed them to the kids, I'm going to try breeding them.

With a bit of help from the internet I've set them up in a 128 litre plastic container from the $2 shop, my husband replaced the lid with a mesh lid, I've added half a dozen pots with potting mix in them (that's what they lay eggs in), I am feeding them on lettuce, bran, oats with a sprinkling of calcium and I'm misting the container 4 or 5 times a day. It's sitting in a hot, humid place under an awning so it's protected from direct sunlight ... and ..... voila!! Snails making whoopee




Early days, but I'm hopeful because we don't get alot of rain so we don't get alot of snails. Give it a try!

I'm getting very attached to them but, which may become a problem. I had a casualty (Kwiki Mart Squishy, I crushed him when putting the lid back on) and I was so upset, moreso because it was my fault and I'd promised him if he had babies he wouldn't get fed, but alas Santos took him to a better place!

And yes, they all have names

Well done Lisa, if you over breed them you might be able to re-populate the whole of your area. Good mating photos too.

If C.A. gets luky it will rail tonight and early in the morning still waiting for it lol guss where I will be in the morning if it is raining lol

If you're allowed and have a spare tub, see if you can start to breed your own as well mate.

As long as I have them in my bed room and dont play with them ( I know it sound wered but I would but snails in a gar and put them under my bed but this was when I was 4 or 5 lol). I should ALSO IT IS RAINING whoopieee
