Well a squash is alot of food for a skink so I suggest doing this: Follow this recipe for 1 half of the squash and just bake the other half plain for your bts. That way you both get to enjoy some delicious squash! (half the added ingredients)
Baked Acorn Squash
Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
* 1 Acorn Squash, halved
* 2 pats of butter
* 2 teaspoons of honey or maple syrup
* 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
* Salt & pepper
PREP WORK
Pre heat oven to 375 - 400 degrees F.
HOW TO MAKE AT HOME
Scoop the seeds out of each half with a spoon
Add 1 pat of butter, 1 teaspoon of honey or maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, salt and pepper to the hollow scoop of each half.
Place upright on a greased cookie sheet and roast for about 1 hour or until tender when flesh is poked with a fork.
oh and make sure not to give it to your bts hot!

When I buy a butternut squash, all I do is cut it one disk at a time (as needed) from thin to fat end, zap it for 10 seconds and its as soft as you like.Then cover the cut end with cling film and it'll last a good two weeks+ in the fridge.

The little black and decker chopper does a great job of cutting squashes.

I tried that squash recipe last year and put in a ton of sugar because I'm not the biggest squash fan, but I still couldn't make it NOT taste like mooshy squash, ugh...
You can cut up the uncooked squash with the little chopper like Jenn said, the hardest part is getting the darn thing cut in half so you can get pieces off of it.

I do try to use half the squash for my family and half for the skinks. You can google a million recipes off the internet. If you don't like the texture of regular squash, try spaghetti squash. Buy a good knife as you will be doing this for twenty years. Raw veggy pieces will keep longer than boiled ones. I cut the blueys' half into small chunks and put that in a tupperware. Then, every other day, I put a few chunks into my mini chopper with their greens, fruit, etc. for a fresh batch of food. That means you only have to use your knife once and the chopper does the rest of the work.
