For the past 2 weeks blue went from total hibernation attitude to suddenly extremely active. every night he spends climbing the tank scratching at the top of the cage. Am I keeping the heat turned up too much? I like it warm.

Mine's doing a week kipped then a day or so of activity, that said he seems to only want to actually come out for kinda half hour, where as normally he'll be out for hours before showing signs of sleep or wanting to go back in.

They're so weird! Chuff was a spaz last week, then we got snow, and he's been having a kip ever since!

Rollie is refusing to brumate this year.

I even tried turning off his basking light a few days a week for an "overcast" day, and he still sits there, cold as ice, but happy, I guess.

No, you don't have to officially brumate them. Most start to shut down on their own, even with full heat and light.
Brigget, you don't need a heat pad with a 60 degree house! I would say that pad is giving him false hope for spring lol...

No kidding!!! 72 degrees, a light, AND a heat pad? You don't need it! Turn everything off at night. Give his body a chance to naturally cool down.

My house gets down to 58 at night sometimes, my skinks never had a problem. I used to use a heat pad, but I learned that it was unnessesary, even at these low winter temps.
brumation

Pele' decided to brumate about 2 weeks ago but he's been up for the last three days. Doesn't want to eat though. Must be sleep walking---as he has never turned down food before!
