I'm trying to post a picture of Eliots tail. This is tonight after I soaked him. A bit more skin came off of his tail, so I applied betadine and triple antibiotic. About the Under tank heater...I added it once it started getting really cold. It sometimes gets in the 50s at night in my basement apartment, and the tank was getting too cold. He can't lay right on the heater, as there is a log over it. I do find him sleeping near it on cold nights though, so I hesitate removing it. He's been eating better since I added it as well.

hmm, skin coming away is not normal. I think you may need to either see a good reptile vet to determine the cause, or keep monitoring it closely to see if it's spreading or occuring anywhere else on him.
With regards to healing the affected area, I think reptiles are great at healing themselves. Most wild injured ones here are kept in a safe place until they heal themselves and then released, usually with no more than one application of antiseptic applied to their wound.
If it were mine, I'd lay off the baths. I think clean dry air will do better at healing it than moisture. And application of diluted betadine once a day should be plenty, but I wouldn't use it on an openly weeping wound. I'd remove substrate and replace with paper towel or similar until healed.
If it's not healing however, then I'd be seeing a vet to find out what's caused it.
Welcome! Eliot's a pretty little thing

He looks pretty small. If it doesn't start to heal soon, see a vet. If the affected part grows, I'd think of amputating that part (vet) as it should grow back well. Once again, Good Luck!

That looks like what happened to (I think it was) PINGS tail, correct me if I'm wrong.Lisa's offered GOOD advice, and follow that for now, he does look a happy chappy apart from the tail end.

I would agree with Lisa as well. Keep him dry and on paper towels. Blueys have amazing healing powers. That is one cute skinker.

Well, it's not necrotic. If it was, it'd be black. But follow Lisa's advice - she knows what she's on about.

I would agree -- no more baths!

And use some lining or something non-dusty in the tank. Getting dirk and dust in that would probably not be good.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I have not been able to respond as my internet has been down for a while. Eliot seems to be doing about the same. His tail looks dry now (and dark, but I think it's more scabby then dead). I can't tell yet if it is healing, but as of now is not getting worse. I was only doing the baths after he shed poorly. It was his first bath where his skin shed off. He got got 4 baths total. I don't think his tail could be scale rot as I don't think 4 baths would do it, and the humidity in his tank is only about 30-35 (I live in CO, so very dry). Thanks again for the help and I will let you know how he progresses or if I end up taking him in to the vet. Thanks again!
