Help! Baby might be sick :(

Postby guitarlixx » Sun Dec 16, 2007 11:16 pm

Well as many of you know, Magenta had babies a while ago. I have 5 left and I thought they were all doing well. Delilah is still rather small, but she's eating well and her overall health seems to be fine.

I'm very concerned for one of her larger siblings though. He is a healthy size, and I think he may have been one of the largest ones in the group, actually. He's been as active as the others he's living with, he's been eating fine, drinking fine, and is having bowel movements. However, the little plates that line his lip area seem to be lifting, in a way. It ALMOST looks like mouth rot, but in the same breath, it doesn't and it seems to be something else. Also, his eyes have crusties. When he falls asleep, he sleeps soundly...but when he wakes up, he has a really hard time opening his eyes, and I can see that they seem to crust over a little bit and he tries really hard to open them, but it's after much effort that he finally is able to do it, and even then, they look a little funny.

Everybody seems to be getting along okay, and none of the others are picking on him so far as I notice.

I have been very sick this month and am very low on money, so at this very moment in time, bringing him to the vet is going to be difficult at best. So I'm hoping there is some advice from some folks on here so that I can help him until I am able to get him into the Vet's.
Please help! :( Thanks guys!

well first thing I'd do is seperate him from his siblings. Next i'd clean out that tank just in case it's something that can be transmitted to the rest of the crew.

As far as meds are concerned - I can't help you, but at such a young age I think some meds may be a bit harsh. This is something I think IAN - (DeadEye) could help you with. Lots of people will have a guess at what it could be, but at the end of the day, The only person I'd really trust with this sort of thing would be DeadEye.

Just make sure you seprerate him and clean the tank to be safe. Just msg DeadEye and wait for a response.

Good Luck!

I don't know if this helps, but Trikks had shed problems for a while, and retained shed, especially around the mouth. It was lifting his scales up away from the mouth. On his last shed I was able to remove the retained parts (he bit me for it) and fix it up a bit. I'm hoping his next shed will either be all better, or I can at least see what's left to fix. I'll attach a picture of Trikks with his lifted scales. Sorry about the quality.
This was before the last shed:

These are from after, you can still see some of the damage done:

Hi No Pm yes yes Fatal-sub has a good point there to , its just pure precaution ...Ive got an old boby that has some mouth scales that wont shed there stuck on there ..With no problem ...sadly thats 1 thing we dont get here is any type of mouth rot , as the climate is so dry

But if you have or could get some good pics in clear day light ...Ill try and help the best i can .. regards .

(eg) If we get a call a sick skink in a garedn flat , eyes stuck shut ..Gloves on wash hands with anti bacteria stuff after tuching them isolation is critical ... But we have a horrible virus here . Hope to hear some good news Thanks John ..
