Baylee is a big pain in my butt when it comes to cooling him! He stops eating like he's suppose to but won't go to sleep like the rest of them. I've taken to leaving the skinks lights off for a couple of days at a time. If the lights are off he'll snooze but the moment the lights come back on he out and about again. I worry about leaving the lights off too much on him and Cordy because the basement temp is about 60. That's a great cooling temp for the eastern and notherns but it's kind of cool for the Keis. Cordy is being a good little girl and has been snoozing for the last month or so. I've seen her sticking her head out once and gotten a few huffs so I know she's alive. Anyone with hints or suggestions for the keis, I'm open to hearing them. For everyone else here are a couple of Baylee pictures from today.

OMG he is so cute. :chin: If you are worried about temps being too low could you use a low watt black light so they won't think the sun is up? That might fool the little bugger!

My Blue is doing the same thing this year as well... usually he's sleeping like a baby, but not this year. In fact he's decided to completely tear up the cage liner with his nails instead of sleep....

I've always had a problem with Baylee cooling. The first winter I had him (he was 1 1/2) he stopped eating but ran around like crazy. He ended up losing a good 200 grams. It was a good thing he started that winter a bit plump! Last year he didn't eat again but at least slowed down some so there wasn't the drastic weight loss. He was also in my bedroom at the time so it was warmer and busier. I was hoping it would be better this year since the basement is quieter and cooler. No such luck. I am thinking about adding a low wattage red bulb. I'm afraid he'll still come out for the heat though. I'll let you know once I give it a try. Of course of all my pairs, my kei's are the ones I would kill to get to breed!!!

Tatoo- He knows he's a handsome bugger!!!!

Renee- What are you cooling your guys at?

:woo: Baylee!!!

You know, I think Rollie and Baylee are talking. I put on the UV compact fluoro today and Rollie popped right out and acted like it's noon in July.

Mr Booger is doing the same thing....sleeps as long as the light is off but out and about when it is on. I'm afraid he is burning too many calories with all the action and no food. He does look skinnier. My fiance Rock says I'm being mean by not feeding him...makes me feel bad! Based on what you past "brumationers" say I'm sure he will be fine....think I should just turn the lights off all together or maybe only have them on for a couple hours?

Who did you get Baylee from? Maybe they can share some of the secrets of their success. It would be great if Keis were available on this forum.

Latte's sleeping bag came today!!!!!!!!!!! The fabric is so soft and the print was even more adorable than I remembered. The kids and I were so excited that we had to let him try it---even though he was already down for the day. I woke him up and he crawled into it and went right back to bed. He slept with his little nose sticking out. There is plenty of room for him to grow too. I LOVE it and he does too! Thank you so much!!!!! :ohyes:

Baylee is on of Greg's '04 babies. He's not on the site very much anymore. I'll have to send him an email.

I haven't tried leaving the lights completely off for a couple days approach. My guys are all pretty much boycotting the whole brumation thing. Lights are on from 10:30am until 4:30pm and they are still pretty active and alert. Sprout has even started going into shed phase  I still offer food about every other week so they can get some sustance, but I don't want to feed them too much and have them not go down at all. They only have 25 watt bulbs, but I haven't taken their temps since I'm not really home when their lights are on. Sprout will still eat whatever I feed him, Nona still eats a little, Mamma and Kei Kei have a few bites and leave the rest and Styx isn't eating at all, but is the most active. :oi:

Hi Jenn

Very nice Kei you have there  . give it to mee :bow1:

As far as I see, you don`t have a pair of keis. See that you have 2, but

has somthing change, that you know it´s a pair

Why on earth are you cooling it down ? .

As long as you dont breed your kei`s then don´t cool them.

i know some may not agree this, but i only cool Bts, I know I`m

going to breed the year after.

How old are your keis.

I'm cooling Baylee is the hopes that he will breed with Cordy in the spring. I am almost positive that Cordy is a female. I just haven't changed my signature. Baylee is 3 1/2. I'm not sure the age of Cordy as she is a long term captive. If I'm not planning on breeding then I believe that the skink should decided whether or not they want to cool. Right now all of my guys are cooling (some I'm hoping to breed, other's I'm not). I do plan on putting Cordy and Baylee together in the hopes of breeding.

Baylee just finished shedding! Crazy boys! I'm beginning to think that Baylee's version of cooling is to lay around but not sleep.

Just as a side-note for the first time brumators, my Jubby went into brumation half shed with no detrimental effects. If anything it came off quicker when he eventually woke up again because it seemed a bit drier and flakier.

Mines slowed a lot more than last year, and spent a few days on the trot with a no show,I've only fed him twice since he started to brumate,he had some snails a week or so ago, and three small chunks of turkey wrapped in kale and sweet potatoe(that he wolfed back)on Boxing day.If they are actively searching for food should you feed them?I know he's hungry because he searched endlessly through the substrate, just to find a couple of tiny snails that had escaped.I'm using this time to help Blue back into shape so not really feeding him.It doesnt seem to change his day,he still seems to have the same amount of hid time,if he does or doesnt find a snack

Lisa, Baylee is very upset that you didn't comment about how handsome he looked. He said the whole reason he wasn't cooling was because he was waiting for a comment from you!!

Christopher is still hanging out at school and is snoozing away. He took a few weeks longer to snooze then the rest of my crew but he's out. There was never a change in his lights, temps or surrounding noise level but he conked out anyway. The kids are a bit disapointed but it's all a learning lesson.

Well stuff me with butter and stick me in the oven because I'm obviously a turkey :nono:

Baylee knows he has my heart. He makes Santos look like a chocolate bar that's sat too long on the dashboard of a car parked in the sun, he makes Ralphie look like a post modern piece of canvas that someone's thrown a myriad of paint at and mistakenly called art, and Jubby? Well, put Jubby in with Bays and you'd probably pick him out with a kleenex while spot cleaning.

I want Baylee suspended above my bed as the great big luminescent disco ball with four legs that he is, and have his radiance dazzle me awake each morning as the sunlight twinkles mischievously off his shimmering, resplendent, incandescent scales.

Sleep now, oh radiant one.
Your Mum might even make it worth your while when you wake up ...
Over to you, Jenn. Go find Baylee a ladyeee :hehe:
