Yellow Indo Opinions

Postby Fatal_S » Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:31 pm

Hiya everybody!

Well I'm getting 2 amazing yellow indonesians from Lacey (Moshpitrockchick). I was also browsing Kingsnake and saw an ad for a yellow indo. I figured, what the heck, if I'm going to drive for two, could easily add another. Contacted, and got some better pictures. It's got gold on the sides, but the back is faded. I don't really mind the color, but I'd love some opinions on this gal.

The seller very much believes it to be female. I'd like to know if it's pure, or if it's a mixed breed. To me it looks like a merauke cross, but I'm hoping that's just me being suspicious. Help please.

I saw that add as well. It looks like a beautiful animal, I see where you are thinking Merauke as the front legs aren't jet black...other then that, and the interesting faded top colors, it appears to be pretty Indo. I wonder if it is a really old animal, or just has "special" colors? Definitely looks very healthy and more Indo then anything to me...especially with all the black outlining the parietal scales. From the pics I have seen on Kingsnake I came to the initial conclusion that that animal was likely Male...but, I just saw a pic or two with what appeared to be some pretty large bulges at the tail base and a rather wide/large head...could just be the age, though? Of course, I have very limited experience...just me weighing in. :)

So, starting an Indo colony, eh? ;)

Coudn't say whether it's pure or not. Sure is a nice looking skink though.

Looks Indo to me, mostly due to the unclean head. But the tail is pretty long. Maybe asking for it to be photo'd near a ruler of some kind just to get the relative length. If its over 20 inches it probibly has merauke influence. But definately get more opinions. Also remember most likely this guy(or girl) was a wild caught at some point... or born from a wild caught mother. Just due to the fact that not many if any indos are produced in the States. So I doubt it would be a cross at least not done by its keepers. Id say go for it! even if its a male. You can never have enough diversity!

Looks very indo to me. Also, just some terminology, a merauke indo mix would be an integrade, as they are both subspecies of Tiliqua gigas.

I doubt it is a mix though, and while the seller thinks its a female, remember that she has no clue haha.

I agree, definitely not a mix -- and who knows if it's female unless he has bred her!

That color is REALLY different! I've never seen anything quite like it...wonder if it's a part shed or something.... :chin:

I can't see anything wrong with buying her -- I'm stoked you're getting Mosh's Indo's though; they're a proven pair! (I think?)

Yep, mosh's indo's are proven. Glad everyone seems to give me the go. I'll send the e-mail saying I'll take her/him ASAP. It's a good price, so no harm, and I'd like to see her in person. Thanks guys. And if this is a girl, maybe Jack won't mind too much dealing with both ;)

This one, as Jack and Tequila come pre-named. I must say I'm very excited. At least she'll be easy to tell apart from the other 2 with her unique coloring.

Thats a nice looking Indo (I think), they're pushing the issue with the Yellow bit though unless it has faded with age,was the age mentioned? You sound happy about it,so yeh add it to the collection.

lucky you, getting those T.g.gigas.

To me it looks as a pure T.g.gigas, go for it.

The guy got her a year and a half ago, and says she's grown several inches since then. So he doesn't believe her to be too old. The ad didn't even mention the yellow, just said Huge Blue Tongue. I noticed the yellow. The picture in the ad had more yellow, but the back was still pale. Haven't asked him if s/he's shedding, but I'm quite happy with any pure indo really, getting one with some yellow coloring is just a bonus.

That's a pretty Indo. S/he looks a bit chunky...or maybe it is just the camera angle.

Where are you driving to?

Yeah, you have a high yellow boy all ready to spread his high yellow all over the ladies already! Any more yellow the ladies can offer would be a big bonus! :)

Geez Fatal! I believe you will be caught up with me in the bluey department. I was so close in getting this indo. Thought it might be a good mate for the Indo I will be getting next month. Good luck with your breeding project!

correct me of I'm wrong , but that tail is awful long to be an indo, I'd be thinking Merauke or merauke/indo.
