Pellets

Postby PsyKoViggy » Fri Jan 25, 2008 4:55 am

Yesterday i was very ill, to the point where i couldn't really stand up, let alone actually do something when i had managed to get up.
Luckily i'm feeling a lot better today and was able to make Till his food, but it got me thinking about what i'd have done if i'd been very ill for a longer period of time. So i wondered if there was any reptile pellets i could keep around the house that would be a suitable substitute for his meat and veggies in a situation where it really isn't possible to prepare them.

You can buy canned food such as Can O' Worms and Can O' snails from Cornish crispa company, I'm not sure if there are any pellet foods specifically for skinks, but perhaps you could freeze some greens in case you get ill one day and can't get to the shops?

I've heard of some Turtle/Lizard canned food. Here is the link to check out the food.

It couldn't hurt to feed for a day or two while you have the sickies. And remember, you don't have to feed your bluey everyday if it's an adult.

He would be fine for weeks, if not months, as long as someone gave him water and his lights were on a timer.

I have a store of cat food in the cupboard just for that emergency. You never know when life will go awry. Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Yikes, I hate being sick! Glad you're feeling better!
I wouldn't worry too much about having pellets on hand, as long as your Bluey has fresh water, in the winter months, they can go a couple of weeks without food (probably quite a bit longer, though I haven't experienced that with my Chuffers yet!)

Theres pellet food for Iguanas and you can feed to your BTS, I havent tried, But my BTS old owner feed her along with his iguana with pellet food.
I think it works, coz he used that food to feed her for almost 5 years and no problems

I think that you'd be hard pressed to find a pellet that your bluey would eat if they're used to a soft food with a high moisture content. I'd imagine that unless you had an extended hospital stay that your bluey would be fine without food. If you're concerned, spot's stew is excellent to have around because it has a lot of whole veggies in it as well as being a great source of protein.

A few grapes in a container lid in a cool part of the enclosure.

They can sit there for a week without going bad, and the bluey will pick them off when it is ready. Works for short holidays too.
