Cricket Tantrum

Postby brunetteoctober » Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:34 pm

Cricket threw the biggest tantrum! But it wasn't the usual he's being a punk tantrum, I felt so bad, he had a right to be *ticked.

I have been spending the last few weeks moving. I moved from Sacramento to Arcata, an entire state's length apart and completely different climates. In sac the normal humidity level is around 30%. Here normal humidity is 60%+, so as soon as I got up here; my herps went into shed immediately. I knew cricket was about to shed, but I needed to go back home and wasn't sure how long it was going to be, a couple weeks probably, so I took the herps home with me. Well instead of shedding the skin shrank, but me being oblivious, thought he shed because he went from gray to his normal colors. When I got back to Arcata, I realized that he had not shed. I immediately soaked him in some warm water to release the skin. I was able to get all the shed off with no help from him.

He was wiggling back and forth, up and down, around in circles, plus he was slippery because of all the scales coming off. PLUS he pooped everywhere, and then when he ran out of the solid stuff he literally sprayed me with liquid sewage. It was never ending. He hasn't eaten in two weeks; I don't know where it all came from. I was so afraid he was going to throw his tail with the fit he was having. Luckily, no such horror, but he was so stressed and I felt so bad, but I had to get the shed off.

Anyways, thought I’d share.

Yikes, what temp was the water you soaked him in? Chuff absolutely HATES the sink/bath, he flails and tries to crawl up the sides for a few moments, then he realizes he won't get anywhere so he calms down and just deals with it.
Maybe a wet warm towel would be better for next time, because he can burrow in the towel and feel safer. I think they just feel really vulnerable and uncomfortable while in shed which is why they get cranky and defensive.
Poor Cricket! (but I sure LMAO at the sewage spray visual!)

I would get that checked out by a doctor. Herpes is a horrible disease.

I prefer the company of herps.

OMG poor Cricket. He sure has had some rough times. I like Saille's idea of the warm wet towel. Sounds like he is quite put off by the bath and that may comfort him. The fire hose pooh story was delightful though!

What kind of Bluey is Cricket? (I can't tell from your avatar, other than that Cricket resembles a muppet) I'm sure this went around, but I can't remember! If Cricket's a Tanny or Wild caught, you can expect some attitude.
