Sorry to ask again but do you think it would be okay to use? Its fairly large and this top would come off to let the light in. Its made of fir wood. It is anti termite treated (is this going to be okay? as i dont know what is in the treatment does anyone else know). Dont think the pet shop knows either.
If i cant use this then would the ants on the ground bother my BTS?I could use some lattice fencing to make an enclosure or how about a childs plastic sand pit with both of these i would have to place a net or something oover the top. Got any ideas? I dont fancy leaving him in the open which i know some of you do but i would worry about birds or cats getting him.
Any ideas appreciated. I have looked at the pictures of outside enclosures but peoples ideas are good.
Thank you
guinea pig hutch for an enclosure outside?

If you have fire ants, forget it. Those buggers will literally eat him alive. I've seen them get a snake in a cage -- he was a skeleton within 8 hours.
Skinks are excellent climbers and escape artists, so whatever enclosure you choose, double, triple check it. Then check it again.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Fir wood a type of Pine?
I would stay away from anything pine or heavily scented woods like cedar because of the risk of respiratory issues down the road. I think its why pine and cedar is not recommended as a substrate either. Just something to be aware of and think about, in my opinion.

Thank you Saille
I think you are right and i have retracted my bid on ebay for the rabbit hutch - better to be safe than sorry. Will try and either use plastic or tin for the enclosure. Just wanted something that wasnt hard to put together and i could move around the garden as well. Maybe i will use a large shallow storage box or a plastic kids sand pit. I will keep thinking .

Try Craigslist.org for good cheap enclosures. You won't have to pay ebay prices and you can see what you're getting before you decide to buy.
Good luck!

ideas
Check the photo album on this site for pictures of other peoples' outdoor enclosures. Rio Bravo Reptiles has plans for one that I may modify---as theirs is for a chuckwalla. Get ideas but remember that blueys can climb screen and use their tails to push up. Mine don't dig much but do wiggle under things. Don't leave food in the enclosure if you have ants of any sort. If you have hawks, cats, etc. a screened cover is a thought! Post pictures as you build and we'll critique from our lounge chairs!
