Chomper! Lots of Pictures for you guys!

Postby Kymbadina » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:42 pm

Hey everyone Just wanted to say thanks for all the help I got with my little baby Chomper. I just took some pictures of him..some good ones not with a camera phone :) He is growing very fast! he is 13.5 inches now..he was about 10 inches when I bought him ony 3 and a half weeks ago!
One thing, I suspected he was sick with resp. infect. took him to vet. He said nothings wrong just his breathing a little fast so he gave me some Baytrill. Gave it for the 10 days he said. Chomper shed and now he's happy and fat.
But now, I notice he is a little wheezy. I don't know what its from, He has been this way eversince I gave him meds..maybe he inhaled some of it..it wasnt a pleasent thing to give him the meds. He isnt sick to my knowledge. He uns around like normal, no discharge eats more than enough..so..perhaps he is just a wheezer now?
I love these pictures, That is his vaforite spot to be behind my neck and in the crook of my hoody or jacket. He always falls asleep there while im on the computer or doing homework.Image

Just out of curiosity, what led you (and your vet) to believe that he had a respiratory infection?
The reason I ask is, Blueys tend to sneeze a lot, but its totally normal and just means they're clearing their snouts because they do like to burrow and dig and push their way under things.
(I was worried at first too but then I read the caresheet which helped ease my mind!)

Also, the breathing fast thing (in my experience) is them huffing and hissing either from excitement or worry, (or both) i.e. they're in defense mode or they're stoked to be out and exploring.

That, and personally, I don't like giving (or taking) any antibiotics unless I know for absolute sure they're needed. (IMHO, I think they are wayyyy over prescribed both for human and animals. . . and can do more harm than good if not properly dealt with)

Hope Chomper gets well soon, I would just make sure he's warm and not insanely humid in his enclosure. He's very cute! :D

He is really cute! Horatio's favorite place seems to be behind the neck as well. Hope he is feeling better soon.

I thought it was a resp. infect. because i saw some white by his nose, thought it was salt crystals thingys but it didnt just flake off.
I understand they sneeze normally but he was sneezing excessivly in his tank and he didnt have anythign to burrow under as he was on paper towels cause he was just a baby.
Turns out the white by his noes was loose skin en between his non mooving scales, I had never seen him shed so didnt know what to expect.
He turned out to be fine.
and when he was breathing hard in his tank he was completely at rest.

Pryce is a pet store skink I got, and he's not exactly in perfect condition. One of the major things is his breathing. He weezes and whistles and makes all manner of odd breathing noises. He also tends to breath with his mouth open and tip of tongue hanging out. He doesn't have an RI, he's just had previous damage. I keep an eye on him, but so long as he stays healthy, I let his other quirks go. Don't Panic.

Thank you!
Chomper is from PetSmart (where I work) While he was at PetSmart I made sure his care was to the best of everyones ability but I don't know his condition while he was at the breeder or whereever he was purchased from.

Great photos, he looks in good nick, yeh they love the neck resting spot, and its fine until the little grave diggers get sharp and leave scratches galore.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????
