Hola, I'm goign to be building a cage for my one spoiled baby Chomper..at 13.5 inches he is rapidly outgrowing his temporary 20 gallon tank. The cage I am building will be 4ft long, 2ft wide and 16 inches tall.
And tips? We will also be building a stand for it, thats the easy part.
And what can I use for the lid? I'd use the clamps on the lights but im afraid of it falling in one day while im not there. Do you think using the clamps would be good?
We are goign to use plexyglass or this stuff I stumbled upon called lexan or lexon..cant remember. I hear it is stronger.
Hit cage will be right next to a window so I can let in some natural light while im in there with him..Just looking for some tips from people who have built cages.
The spoiled baby.

nice lil skink! your cage sounds good, for the lid you could use screen tops at homedepot or petstores of the right size

I'm not much of a DIY person ... I usually buy ready made. I would however caution about putting your skink right next to a window. When the sun comes up the temps could get to a dangerous level. Better to place the tank in an area not effected by outside weather. Most of the natural benefits of the sun will be filtered by the window and your viv anyway.

Si si, yes It is always closed if I'm not in there. I open it for him everyonce in a while to let him look outside since the tank is in my room and he doesnt get to see anyone but me and the tv.

Just a thought, make it from wood,like a box,and have a front opening style,the light can be suspended from inside,with a glass/plexi removable/sliding door.

I'm actually finishing up a cage for Smoot right now, it's 5' (1.52 m) long, almost 2' (61 cm) deep, and it's 14" (35.5 cm) inches high. I made it out of 1/2" (1.27 cm) birch plywood, with a frame out of red oak. It all bolts together, so it can be broken down for when I move and for easy cleaning. I lined the bottom with linoleum scrap, and the front is made of 1/4 " (.635 cm) plexiglass. I caution against the lexan; it's likely to be 2 or 3 times the price of plexi. Unless, of course, you need a bullet-proof enclosure for your skink. The top is a frame of the oak with 1/4" hardware cloth stapled on. It's strong enough to hold several lights and heating elements. Sorry if this is long. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Lol yes, I noticed the price increase. It was the only sheet large enough at 7ft by 4 ft. that size was on sale half off for 21. It ended up being cheaper than plexi.
