Hey everyone! I finally found some cheap carefresh online.
I found this carefresh at petdiscounters . com.
It is under the small animal section. It comes in blue, green, pink, and yellow!! I think there MAY be purple too?
I was woundering if it would be okay if I used this dyed carefresh for Hershal? I think I may get the pink!
Please look it up on that website and read the info about the carefresh, and tell me hwat you think! =]
Thanks!!

Carefresh is the only bedding that I use for my skinks. However that may change here shortly as it is getting to be too expensive to change out 5 soon to be 7 skink cages.
I prefer the white, or the Carefresh Ultra (i believe that is what it is called) but have been using the original brown carefresh.
I would imagine that the colored carefresh would be safe for the blueys. If i remember correctly I thought someone on the forum was going to use the pink carefresh for the male skink.

you could always buy all of them, that what you could get a discount for buying in bulk, have months worth of substrate, and be able to have the must colourfull viv in the world....
but on a serious note im actually looking at getting to differnt colours on my next buy, looking at dark beech and white beech and mixing the two, just to make it look a bit more interesting inside

.
Good to hear that I can use the colored carefresh! I am going to buy two bags of the pink, or blue, carefresh! Yay!
Hershal vet appontment (sp) is coming up this Tuesday!
So I am going to wait awhile before I put the carefresh in ....
I am only going to wait because they may give me some sort of ontment (sp) to put on his eyes ...
But as soon as his eyes clear up, I am going to put down the carefresh!!
How deep should the carefresh be?
Should I fill the whole cage with it?
Will he borrow in it?
Has anyone gone and looked at the care fresh I am talking about on petdiscounters . com? Well please do and tell me .. should I buy one pack or two packs of the stuff?
Thanks for ALL the help!!

It's really neat when you mix the colors. Pink and blue looks nice, I've seen it in reptile displays locally. I'm thinking of getting some colored carefresh, all depends on if it goes on sale.
The bags on that site look super small though. I'd say at least 2, if not more. I have my carefresh an inch to 1.5 inches deep, my guys will rearrange it to their liking. They burrow in it fine. Keep an eye on moisture though, it tends to keep the place a bit dryer than other substrates. Great for cleanup though.

I wouldn't get any of the colours and go for the natural one.
I find it quite interesting that everyone is cautious with newspaper ink yet you are all willing to use dyed carefresh. Kinda makes no sense huh?
Has my point been made?

Yeah...natural is always better.
Wouldn't Carefresh be made as a substrate, though? Therefore the inks/dyes should be approved as "non-toxic"? I would think there is a different in Newspaper ink and carefresh dye, but I have no idea...I use Aspen.

well - carefresh is a form of kitty litter, rather than a reptile substrate to my knowlege. Atleast what you lot call carefesh is sold here as kitty litter rather than reptile bedding.
Also, the original form of kitty litter (the white rock type) are not safe for blueys, so why would the dye on the carefresh be much different? I would avoid it.

Oh...that's news to me, I thought it was made for "furry critters" here in the states, anyway...I guess it being a kitty litter would be another reason for me to prefer Aspen.

reptles aren't exactly "furry". Well they weren't last time I checked. Can you name one reptile with fur?
Also, aspen is a tried and true substrate, but so are the recycled paper kitty litters like carefresh or the Pellets like breeders choice. I just find it funny how on one hand people are all worried about ink from newspapers, yet are cool with the dyes in this carefresh. It's possible that it's harmless, but i just wouldn't get it unless i knew for sure that the dyes were safe.

I meant that that was the market segment that "carefresh" was specifically marketed to...not that reptiles were furry.
For example, Carefresh would be kept in the rodent section for use with rodents...?

Yeah, I hear that! There is some game my friend was playing that had a hairy croc of some sort that he had to fight...very strange!
In regards to your edit...yes, that would be why I use aspen and why "natural is best" in my opinion...meaning the "natural" carefresh...
Obviously, from all the users of Carefresh over the years, it is OK...but I just think that Aspen works better for me and makes me "feel" better.
If I couldn't use aspen, beech, or similar, then I would probably go with "natural" carefresh unless the colors were proven safe...well as "proven" as it can me, anyway...

No Carefresh is sold in the US as a small animal bedding. I dont recall ever seeing kitty litter that looks like Carefresh in the US. I do know that we have the recycled paper pellets that are used as cat litter.

From the companies website:
Q: Is CareFRESH® Colors™ Colors safe?
A: Yes, CareFRESH® Colors™ is dyed using the same materials used in homes around the world for over 40 years. CareFRESH ® Colors ™ are non-toxic to you and your pet.
They never do say what the actually are (such as the chemical name) but I dont see the newspaper companies claiming that their ink is safe for pets?
