Expert identifiers needed...

Could I please ask for your experienced opinion about the sub species identity of Tallulah? Is she really an Irian Jaya, possibly Indonesian X?

I would guess IJ -- she is very interesting looking, her patterns are unique!

From what we can see in the pictures she looks IJ to me. Very pretty too.

IJ, but some very Merauke characteristics. The more I see these guys, the more I agree with Glenn on his IDing.

It's almost like regular Indos on one far end of the spectrum, and then IJ's on the far opposite. Then, you have species all in between that have characteristics of all.

+ 1.1 Eastern (Eugene, Enzo)
+ 1.2 Northern (Niko, Pearl, Peach)

I would say IJ, but the lines running down her back seem odd to be an IJ. Someone show me these are okay for IJs?

I looked into Meraukes, thinking this could be one of the ones which make the 2 species into one. However, meraukes also tend to lack these lines.

The species which do have these lines are indos and easterns. I honestly don't see indo. Tallulah has no outlines on her head and no throat speckling. Her legs look IJ, not eastern, indo or merauke.

Would someone please tell me if IJs can have the lines running neck to tail? I'd appreciate a back up with pictures of more classic looking IJs with this trait. If so, I'm all for declaring her an IJ. She's very unique, and pretty. I really like her eyes.

I'll just post this here!

Regarding the lines...

They definitely can have them. The thing with IJ's, is that almost anything goes. If it's true they are a long time hybrid between Indo/Merauke and Easterns (when AU and Papa NG was actually connected) then IJ could essentially have any pattern....and they do. I've seen it all with IJ. It's also part of the confusion. There are SO MANY different looks, sizes, patterns and colors that it's impossibe to put them in any one subspecies...or even their own species! Glenn finally just decided that they belong with, or are one in the same with, the Merauke, and I was STRONGLY against it at first, but I'm just seeing more and more animals that support it.

Okay then. Then I'm fully in agreement Zach, this looks like one of the ones you spoke of which is in between IJ and Merauke. I would still say she's an IJ though.

I looked through the species pages, and none of those IJs had the lines. Not too many pictures on that page though, which is why I wasn't sure. If you happen to have pictures of other IJs with these lines, I'd love to see them when you have time.

Lol. When I was looking at the indo (possible merauke) skink, they said indo, so I first ID'd it myself, then posted online and got it ID'd, then I still got Andrew to have a look and ID it. I was going to post even more pictures and send them to Andrew too once I got it. The seller cancelled though.

It looks IJ to me ,the lines you speak of Fatal, are not lines so to speak, they do not go through or interupt the dark brown banding, there is just a lack of light brown/caramel in the whiter sections, between the dark bands ( did that make sense?)
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Oh, Brad, forgive me! I just wanted to make absolutely sure, as I'd love to breed from her and don't want to run the risk of mixing subspecies. :D

Thank you so much everybody. There were lots of "awww" sounds in our house over the compliments you paid our beautiful girl!

Hey guys.... I HAVE AN IRIAN JAYA! WOOHOO! :ohyes:

HAHA. I am just giving you a hard time. Dont worry about. You didnt hurt my feelings and I would have done the same thing. Glad you come to BTS.net. I just usually browse the other forum and answer the BTS questions as no-one else there seems to know much.

Yeah, you're right, there doesn't appear to be much expertise around. I am quite surprised how few people seem to keep blueys in the UK, makes me realise how lucky I was to find my lovely girl.
