just wanna clear something for curiosity

I was looking at the food list thingy, and I noticed that lemons aren't in with the fruits. Is that simply because they are sour? I see oranges are there, but nothing to do with lemons. I figure it'd be a good idea to put them on the list as lemon juice can make a crappy tasting food really good.

It's just something that tweaked my interest.

If anyone can answer this one - go for your life!

I don't know about a skink but I would'nt want to eat a lemon  it probably does have something to do with the taste or maybe it would upset thier little tummy's, and your right lemon juice is good on some food I like mine on salad but then I'm not a bluey. Sue

i think it's probly because the really sour fruits i.e. lemons and limes are very very acidic. might be uncomfortable for bluey to eat it. but thats just my guess.

I'm not asking so much cuz i want to feed them lemon - I'm just asking cuz it's not on the list. Seeing as most people on here abide by the food list - i figured i'd ask why lemon aint on there and the reasons why.

Lemon and Lime are acidic(not sure which group) thats why you get those flavours in cleaning products so to speak, might work to help break down fat in podgey bluey.

I think the pucker test says it all. If eating the fruit turns your face inside out (lemons and limes) ... passola! I know you can bleach your hair, skin and nails with lemons. Maybe the sugar levels are lower in lemons and limes? Torture in a rind!

Lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges, kumquat and even pineapple... are considered Citrus and have citric acid in them (although, the levels vary). There are also other, non-citrus'y type foods that contain citric acid, (ie., tomatoes ...edited to say, I could be mistaken here and thinking of ascorbic acid? It's been awhile since I looked at properties of various foods, as well. If the Zoo Consensus doesn't approve overall, it doesn't get served very often :? ).

I'm no expert either, but it's probably related to the palatability of the individual fruit... oranges are sweeter and more appealing/palatable than lemons, limes (and grapefruits ..IMO :P )

I haven't looked at the food list in some time... Are the Citrus fruits listed as "sparingly offered" or "in moderation" ?

My bluey loves grapefruit so much that I don't think he minds the acid at all. I won't be feeding him lemon or lime anytime soon, but I think they would probably eat a little and it won't harm them any. I eat the lemon and lime wedges I get on my plate when I go out to eat.

Tell you what. I'll get some pH paper from work tomorrow to find out what the acidity levels are. I'll report as soon as I can.
