yeah - don't sneak up on your skink with food that smells good - otherwise you could get bitten!

I got bitten in a confusing incident involving banana and fingers  some got smeared on my fingers and Jak bit them, and perhaps because he could taste the banana he didn't want to let go!

lesson for new keepers : It's fine to hand feed your skinks, in fact its a great way to associate handling with something good...but be careful to only feed pieces of food, and make sure it doesnt smear all over your fingers :D

yeah i got bit once, was my own fault, was feeding lynyrd of my finger, he was being really gentle and slowly taking the food with his tongue, then.....

I turned my head to talk to the wife, and that my friends was my finger!

I think he let go to get a "better" grip on that tasty flesh!

Ditto with my female brown shingleback -- I was trying to offer her a cricket in my bare fingers. Definitely NOT recommended! She was so enthusiastic in her lunge for the cricket that she got my fingers instead, and it was a pretty serious chomp (and she wouldn't let go)! Bled like the dickens. Definitely MY fault, not hers!

MENTAL NOTE: USE BAMBOO TWEEZERS IN THE FUTURE!!! :-/
(I recommend bamboo, not metal, because they chomp down pretty hard on the tweezers, too, so you wouldn't want them breaking teeth).

See all the fun stories that came out of this! :D Blotch thought I was joking when I said that "simple" posts like this are very useful to new (and often experienced) bluey owners! ;)

I love to read all these little stories...for one, I have yet to be bitten...but I look forward to it! :D

For those of you that were bitten and your bluey didnt want to let go... This might sound stupid, but how did you get him off? Did you just wait until he let go, or what?

I don't have a bluey yet but always read "if a blue tongued skink bites you, they have a tendency to hold on, and can be pretty painful"... But i have never talked to anyone that this has actually happened to!

So please let me know what happened. :D

Chuffers got stoked about his chicken last night and accidentally got my finger. . . I felt how soft the roof of his mouth is. . . He didn't chomp down tho, when he realized he had my finger he let go. I love my sweet gentle Chuffalump! But I certainly respect the power of those Bluey jaws. . .
I can only imagine how hard a thick shovel-headed Shingle can chomp down!
