Muffin (the cat) and Popeye get along very well. She does not try to eat him, but they do have stareing contests. :P

In over eight years, my cats have never once hurt my BTS. It's the small, quick moving lizards that the cats want to get!
BTS are too big and slow for kitties.

Cute pic! The cat and the lizard are beautiful!

I would just worry that the cat would want the food worse than the bt and take a bite out of him. my kitties get smacked if they come anywhere near my babies. I wont even let dusty near lillys cage.

Muffin, the cat, does not like anything but her HARD cat food. She walks away from people food and soft cat food. She just likes to smell it. She actually moves/runs away if Popeye moves towards her.Image

same reason you smack a dog or a kid - to show it who's boss. Cats are intelligent creatures, they are just arrogant.

And please don't try and argue that it doesn't help show the cat who's boss - that type of new age thinking is what makes yelling at your kids for misbehaving child abuse.

You do not smack dogs either.

I'm not talking about human children here, I'm talking about animals. Do you smack your BTS?

YOU do not smack YOUR dogs. Other people do and it is a method that for some people works to discourage undesireable behavior in their pets.

But that's niether here nor there, cats and dogs are not BTS.

I think it's an adorable picture and a beutiful skink (and kitty) and if it's a calculated risk on your part it's your choice. My cats don't even know what their claws and teeth are for, they think they are just for digging in litterboxes and picking up rubber tub stoppers to drop down the stairs.

I have found the spray bottle works best for discouraging unwanted behavior in cats.

My adult cats ignore the lizards. Alley has to sit on her paws when they are out because the skinks try and eat them. My one year old is fasinated by them. He loves when I let him in the basement because he'll sit and watch them for hours. I would not trust him any where near them when they are out of their tanks.

My dog is terrified of my lizards, so all they have to do is move and she runs. I'm not afraid of letting Snoopy nearby when the lizards are out, and she can sniff them if they're in my hands/lap, but otherwise she has to stay at least several feet away. I'll never trust an animal not to have a moment of instinct and hurt something.
