Stella and Saphira

For those of you who don't know (because a ton of new people have joined during my absence!) I have a pair of Easterns. Saphira is a '05 female from Ray and Mr. Stella the Fella is a male of unknown age. Though the guess is at least 10. They mated last year and though there were promising signs, there were not any babies. Both cooled again this winter and have been coming out more and more over the last few weeks. I put them together for the first time tonight and sucess! The moment I put them together Saphira starting snaking her tail and Stella went right for her. After about 10 minutes of him grabing on and dragging her across the pen, he finally got his tail under and got the job done. I'll try putting them together again tomorrow. Finger's crossed that I'll have better luck this year. I'll try and get pictures tomorrow.

Ooh, pretty! I thing Saphira may be one of the closest I've seen to the Aus dark-striped eaterns. Stunning! I can't wait to see babies!

Saphira has some remarkable patterns. You sure it's a pure eastern?

As a little one she was more orange but has darkened with age. I purchused her from Ray who can trace her back to his orignal set.

hmmm - no fade to black, black background around the portholes - very Northern traits.

Is it just me that sees these traits?

The younger picture (bottom) may be a bit confusing, but look at the first picture:

Jubby owned by Lisa from the Eastern Page

If she had eyebands I'd be trying to buy her ^.^ She's the closest I've seen (that I can remember) to your REAL Easterns.

before I continue - I'd like to say I don't mean any disrespect to anyone jenn or Ray - I just see a few northern traits. Granted as fatal has pointed out with jubby - the black near the portholes - My NSW eastern has this to some extent - but the tail, and the porthole area still to me seem very Northern.

Us Easterns spin me out. Either I can see what i say I can see - or my IDing ability is way off today.

US Easterns are so different from what you must be used to. To me the portholes look so far from Northern, Northerns should have black portholes, Easterns should have the yellow ones. I know this is a very base way of classifying, but it's how I see them. I don't at all understand your tail argument, explain please? I don't look at tails very often.

We're talking about Saphira, but Mr. Stella is also gorgeous in his own right. Jenn, is he from Ray too? He's very white and pretty.

ok first off, Portholes are the big orange circles on the side of this northern. http://bluetongueskinks.net/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=3450

Here's some nice nice yellowish ones on one of scotts easterns

And on jubby of course they are orange.

The black is classified as background as it generally strats from the eye or in the American sense the neck and runs down the body with the portholes appearing 'over' the top.

In regards to the tail. You'll notice on this eastern that the tail somewhat fades to black - meaning it gets darker towards the tip.

While i was writing this post - I noticed that alot of the easterns without the eye bands seem more like Northerns as opposed to the NSW and Vic Varieties that have the eye bands. Perhaps it's simply the geographical phases - meaning those that are closer to the location of northerns do infact carry more similarities to northerns than those further away. As My easterns show perfectly what I mean. Also Andrew has a big write up on his site about Easterns that will explain it in better words than I. I seem to suck at writing at the moment.[/img]
