Has anyone tried these with blueys? They sound and look like a blue would love them but I am wondering if a 60 watt bulb would keep it warm enough. The site say that is the highest wattage in should be.

ahh they had simillar things at the expo. Not very good for displaying - but if breeding is all that matters to you - then i guess they'd be ok.

I think I've seen pics of Rays setup - i think he has the rack thing going on. I could be wrong though.

We have similar here in Aus. The slitherin snake racks that you can buy here look similar to the plastic tub thingies going on, and I think it's URS that sell the vivs that look like the stackable ones on that site.

I saw the URS ones at a herp show and I couldn't make up my mind. I liked that they were light and moulded, but those same reasons made me think they were a little cheap in construction. Anyway, mine all live in high, open tanks and I don't think I could now move them into something low and fully sealed. Also, most of the moulded or pre-made type ones for sale here are of smaller dimensions that I would want to put my blueys into.

They look just like Vision cages, what I am using, maybe even better quality? :) I would say that they would work well if you were able to put your own light fixtures inside the cages...

Someone here used boaphile tanks, and gives them great reviews. If I was going to buy any tanks, I'd be buying from them. However I'll be building my own. Don't know about the heat though, maybe you could ask them? I like them though.

The usual reason for stating the highest wattage lamp to use, is the rating of the lamp holder, like in desk lamps, too high a wattage COULD melt the lamp holder and wires.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

I have all my blueys and snakes in them. They are great cages and are great for displaying/viewing. My blueys are in the cages that are 4ftx2ftx18in (the 422d). I would not get the cages that are only 1 ft high because by the time you add the bulb it would be too close to your skink - plus these aren't as good for displaying your bluey.

I had vents installed on on end, the incandescent fixture for heat on the opposite end and had them add a 3ft UV flourscent fixture. The flourescent fixture is not listed on the site so you have to ask for it. The flourescent fixture that they do list is not what you want. It is a thin, under the cabinet type fixture you might use for a little lighting in your home - does not provide enough UV for your blueys). I got that in my snake cages, but not for the blueys. Like I said, I had them add a 3ft flourescent fixture - or you could do that yourself.

For heat I initially used an infrared heat bulb by Exo-Terra over a good basking stone that absorbs the heat well. But fear of exploding bulbs prompted me to move to the the ESU 40 Watt ceramic heater - and I love these.

You can customize the cages however you want. You can buy the bare bones and install your own fixtures, etc if you want. But I opted to just have them do it all. You can get a UTH, but I think it's a waste with blueys. These cages hold temps nice and having the vents I can regulate them more if needed.

They look classier and much nicer than Visons, etc in my opinion. I have been very happy with them. Once I get my collection downsized to where I need to (not want to) then I plan to sell most if not all of mine. Only because I want to upgrade the IJs to even bigger cages.

I would think the 60 watts is enough heat because the cages hold heat in, as opposed to glass tanks.

Yeah, these are nothing like racks and are very nice cages. I've been very happy with mine. Let me know if you have any more questions that I might be able to answer.

It is with great regret that I have to rehome most of my reptiles. It is the most difficult decision I've ever had to make and the hardest thing to do. Unfortunately, my life and health are not where I'd like to be and I do not want my reptiles to get the short end of the stick. I am very fortunate that there are members on this site that I feel that I can trust to care for them and give them wonderful homes. Brad has been a godsend for me and I am truly grateful for him. Paige and Cole are in wonderful homes now and that is of great comfort to me. They are both wonderful blueys and I know that he will enjoy them. Cole might even get lucky!

Paige is one Ray's babies and I'd highly recommend his blueys if you are in the market for a tanny.
