SILVER TANIMBARS BREEDING

Postby AndrewSeike » Thu Feb 28, 2008 4:19 pm

It seems through the last few years my Silver Tanimbars have really changed in coloration. All are extremely silver but I have two that are pratically WHITE. If I took them outside for a photo shoot you'd think I'd altered the pictures they would just look like paper with bits of silver flecks on them.

Now both males are breeding so it's going to be a great season for Silver Tanimbars assuming they are cooperative.

It's amazing my little females are actually breeding all these past years. They haven't grown too much and remain TINY! They are half the size of my Easterns (which are quite small in my opinion) and about a fourth the size of my largest Northerns. These girls are cute! It makes sense, the babies born are just SO tiny I'm scared to ship them out. But nothing beats a pink tongue. Those things are so tiny I'm afraid to inhale them if you hold them.

Here is a picture of them in the act.

Side note: Your eyes aren't deceiving you. They are a bit pink! They only turn pink when stressed or breeding. Apparently they are so white the increased blood pressure actually can be seen and makes them look pink!

:woo: More babies!

I noticed the pink in Wocket when I tried Zach's sexing method (pretend to be a boy skink). I thought I'd hurt it, but s/he seems fine. How big are your guys, Andrew? I can't wait to see all your babies! Looks like you've got some great pairings happening. ^.^

BTW, Ray says he's bred 35 females, the race is on.

It's funny you call them Silver tannies when they are more white than anything huh?

I still say Zach should breed TQ.

excellent stuff Andrew.

Note for the newbies.... in the above pic and the pic of Andrew's orange northerns

Have a look where the male places his back foot. They then quickly scratch the tail base. If the female is responsive she will lift her tail.

Basically what Zach has been talking about in his 'Sexing Females' post.

I feel sorry for the females it looks like it hurts them when the male bites there back.

Thanks, and well pointed out Geoff, that does narrow it down to where to apply the tickle, I admit I wasnt exactly sure of the right region to get a response.

Just a note of clarification: Where you want to scratch is right around where the hind legs are. You're sratching the TOP of the tail not underneath.
