Cancelled - Inter-Species Pictures - 2009 Calendar Contest

Postby Fatal_S » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:06 pm

This contest cancelled. Only one contest will be run at a time.

Contest theme for 2009: “Inter-Species” Deadline to submit pictures: by Friday night, October 31st

Contest Note: These pictures can include either another species with your BTS (Dog, etc) or another BTS of a different sub-species. The more the merrier. Please, use caution whenever your animals interact.

New rules please, please read the following submission guidelines!!! Following the rules can make the difference between me spending 10 minutes or over an hour putting the contest together. :D

Submission info

1. Email only (do not post or pm your entry) to Melanie at: MelanieJPratt@gmail.com You will receive a confirmation email once your entry is received

2. Please resize your pictures to no larger than 640x480 before submitting to me. It is still best to take your picture at the largest size you can – if your picture wins we will need the larger size to put in the calendar.

3. Include in the email your forum name, bluey name and a short title (title optional)

Rules

· Contest is open to all members of the forum.

· The member submitting the picture must own the bluey pictured.

· Only 1 entry per member each month. One entry per bluey each month

· For members that own 3 or more blueys, each bluey is only allowed to win 1 time a year. For members that own only 1 or 2 blueys, each bluey may each win no more than 2 times a year (different picture). After that they may no longer enter until the New Year begins. They may still participate by posting pics fitting the theme in the contest announcement thread, but their picture(s) will not be included in the contest voting.

· No commentary or photo editing (unless the particular contest theme allows for it in the rules) such as adding images/wording, altering colors, etc.
Prize

The winning entry will entitle the winner to receive their picture on a magnet (courtesy of Zach. The winning picture will also be shown on the main page of this website and featured in the 2009 BTS.net calendar (1st place pic will be the large/main picture with 2nd & 3rd place winners will appear as smaller inset pictures).

Post any questions/comments about the theme in this thread, but do not post your entry. All eligible submissions will be posted with a voting poll (yes, you can vote for yourself) within a day or two of the submission deadline.
* Also feel free to email any contest theme ideas you may have – no matter how crazy!

It's a great theme idea, but again PLEASE USE CAUTION. On Tigergenesis's list of possible themes, she suggests some type of barrier between animals. However Bluey Friends pictures have been done before without incident.

No offence, but this is one contest i certainly will not be entering.

I find it amusing that so many people are against housing blueys together, yet a contest like this can be put up as an acceptable risk. it only takes 1second for a dog or a cat to turn and take a bite out of the bluey when your taking the picture, and there's nothing you can do about it.

IMO - it's a risk that's definately not worth taking. I value my blueys way too much!

BTW - shouldn't it be 2009 calendar contest?

What do you think about Multi-Bluey pictures?

And yes, it should be 2009. Can you tell I'm using an old layout?

Multi blueys? You mean more than one bluey in the same pic? it's a heap better than putting a bluey with a much bigger and powerful animal like a cat or a dog. Atleast if it's with another bluey it's not gonn die with one bite and they'll usually give a sign of attack. You can tell if a bluey will attack another one or if it's uneasy.

As you know I house multiple blueys together, as do a few members with no fights, so I'm much more at ease with that personally.

Don't get me wrong - If you want to go ahead with this contest do so - I'm just expressing my concern - i believe it's asking for trouble and I'd hate someone to lose a bluey or have an accident for a mere contest.

Anyone else want to give an opinion on this contest? I took it from a list of possibles, so I can easily change it up if people feel this is too risky.

The easter theme is still up. We missed a few months, and December is another month we don't do, so these are fillers for those months.

Why do we have to have themes?

Why can't we just submit pics of all our blueys for each month? This way we'll get an awesome selection from the people rather than a selection that fits within a designated theme. If a certain bluey wins - they can't win for the rest of the year.

I've seen some awesome shots taken and unfortunately they probably won't be used due to the themes.

Just my opinion. I don't want to come across as a whiner - as i'm not whining about anything - just a suggestion that's all. Like the Wild bluey theme - but for the entire year. know what i mean?

The reason the Wild Bluey theme is for an entire year is because it generally requires outdoors, which for people in various areas of the world can be difficult.

If we had you just throwing any picture in, it would be nearly impossible to vote. How do you compare 2 amazing pictures which are totally different.

The contest is meant to be a fun way to interact with your BTS. The themes give people ideas on what type of photo to take. You of course are still welcome to take as many photos of other themes (or no themes) as you want and post them. Say pictures of dark-eye-striped easterns.

Of course there is a potential risk when having any species out together. HOWEVER, the person must know their own animal and know how they will react. I would be more than happy to put a bluey with my dog (which in fact I have before) but I keep my cat away as much as possible.

Nobody is forcing anyone to participate in the calendar contest. If you dont think this is safe, then dont submit an entry.

Not only does having themes making voting easier, it also makes this more fun.

Dogs and cats also give a sign before attacking, people just need to learn how to read its body language.

Bingo. And for someone who houses MULTIPLE blueys in one tank, you sure are acting worried about potential accidents. There are risks in every aspect of owning reptiles. Housing them together is one of the biggest in my book because I've seen probably more pictures than anyone of the effects of injury (just guessing because I receive so much email). I don't think putting a bluey with a housecat or pet dog is dangerous if the person knows their dog. A risk yes, but one that the owner has to be willing to take.

Uhh i think I explained my position. if you're taking a picture and suddenly you dog or cat decides to take a chunk out of your bluey - there's nothing you can do. And Also as I said - I'd rather one of my blueys cop a bite off another bluey than a dog or cat.

I understand that entering these comps is up to the individual, I never said they were compulsory, so I honestly don't see why you guys are trying to justify that - but to say that having a bluey near a dog or a cat is safer or just as safe is rediculous. Dogs attack children without warning - Why would they be any different towards a little bluey?

Think what you want, but I can also bring up other posts where people have taken pics of a bluey with a cat or dog and people have jumped on them straight away saying how dangerous it is - yet there's a comp suggesting that we do just that (if we enter of course).

Remember recently someone took pics of a gecko with their bluey and we all said how dangerous it was? same situation guys - you can't argue that.

I'm just being responsible and pointing out how dangerous this is - it's obviously up to the individual.
