Out door enclosure materials
I know that pine and treated pine are not recommended for substrates or Entire enclosures - but what's the opinion on using pine as a frame for an outdoor enclosure?
Logically the whole smell thing would be nullified due to the openess of the cage - anyone have a conflicting view to this? if so please state it - I'm gonna build and outdoor within the next couple of days for my easterns and if any one with ideas or suggestions would put them forward i'd be very appreciative.

msot certainly can, do you mind if i wait till during the day cause my camera sucks and the flash stuffs everything up. i'll grab the dimensions for you if you like. hahah it only cost me like 35 bucks to build to.
jsut to things i want to fix mine up with is i should have probably built in a roof on one half and somewhere for them to get off the ground during the rain, like a ramp to a hid box or something, i also need to find some more flat rocks for basking. but once you get the frame going its easy as pie to build.

nope nope nope but my educated guess is 2 males and a female. now supposedly 2 of these have bonded. oddly enough they are the 2 always together in a hide. but also odd is that the breeder was of the belief that the 2 i think are boys were girls and the 1 i think is a girl is the boy. hmm but yes i am pretty certain there is atleast one boy and one girl there

I've heard that keeping them inside is better for shingles cuz it's warmer. not sure if it's true - but the people that have told me that have bred theirs, so i'd take their word and give it a go.

What about plain old second hand hardwood, dirt cheap from a building recycling place and might last 10 years or more in the elements with no copper chrome arsenate to worry about. Can be a bit hard to work with worth a thought. Looks a bit agricultural but does the job.
(my other nursery cage is made out of an old drawer with metal flywire lid) and $3 hinges.
In the babies current cage I fixed the wire, plastic sheet lining to stop climbing with a heavy duty staple gun with 10mm long HD staples. I attached some shadecloth to the base to prevent digging or any chance of escape if my workmanship falls appart
. Total material costs would have been about $50, wire, plastic sheeting, shadecloth, staples, hinges, latch.
I placed free draining soil in the enclosure to raise the level about the surroundings. Substrate is good old gum leaves. Sounds a bit Ocka but does the job well.

shingles do fine out doors in dry enough areas, along the east coast of aus is way to humid for open air keeping out doors, hence the need for indoors keeping, unless u set up to keep them dry out doors, mine have always been indoors, breed very well to,still possable ill have my pr produce for the 5th year straight, good luck with your stumpers guys

apparently treated pine isn't treated with psyonide any more. just on the subject of health effect for humans.
