How much?

Postby RocketRocks » Mon Mar 10, 2008 11:56 pm

How many cups of food can/should an adult blue tongue eat? We give Astro a half plate of food every other day. Is that too much or too little? How much do you feed yours?

I feed mine whatever they want to eat. If they start looking fat, I cut them back. It's working so far.

When you say cups and plates it sounds like a BIG offering, mine gets a small dish about 3" diameter and its not heaped in, a grape or two,a cut mushroom(closed cup sort)a bit of kale, and a couple of slices of banana would be an example of one feeding that'll get topped up in two or three days time

Just fed my guys, so took a few pictures of serving size.
Image
The dishes are bout 2-3 inches across. The really full one is for Pryce (Upper right), the one with only a bit of food is for Trikks (Upper left) and the one on the bottom is for Wocket.
The food on the dish is ground cooked chicken (white), butternut squash (yellow), watermelon (pink) and a mixture of greens including kale, bok choy, and endive (green).
My guys rarely eat the whole serving. However Wocket seems to be pigging out lately. He's eating more than big Pryce.

OK, cool. Thanks guys. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't starving them or anything.

LOL, by cups I was thinking in terms of quarter cups and half cups. I just said that because that's how I tell how much food the dogs should get. And as far as half plate, I mean half a paper place filled with about a half cup of food.

*sigh* :whatever:

Everyone knows that jarlids are either the size of trash can lids, or the size of a dime!

Using trash can lids is hard! I've only got the one :( Have to keep rotating it between the skinks.

I always feel out this entire lid and then he eats about 3/4 of it.

He walks away from it when he's full, I do this every other day and feed him snails, silkworms or even whole grapes.

He doesn't over eat. If he's full he just doesn't seem interested, but when he is hungry he gets really alert and he CAN eat! ;)

I have one of those little, like the smallest repti-rock It's maybe like 4inches around(the food part)I fill pile food in, not just like level with the top of the dish..it's all thrown in there. It varies, sometimes he eats it all, other times he eats only half..and other days anywhere in between. He hasn't gotten fat..maybe a little plump. But then I do what Fatal does and cut back. I also feed him everyday.

I'm just jealous that your bluey eats that well.

Jarlids about 2 inches across every second or third day for a growing bluey is heaps.
