I'm going to a Reptile Expo next week and (hopefully) getting a Northern. I've been looking forward to this for weeks and I've wanted a skink for over a year now. I've been holding off though because I don't want to buy one at a pet store.
Now I definately think it's time. However, due to a house fire I'm living in a very small trailer on my lawn until the repairs on the house are finished (which should be within the next month or so.) I intend on getting a 60 gallon or 36X18X12 tank for my new friend when we're back in the house, but until then I want to house him temporarily in a Rubbermaid container.
My question is how would I attatch the screen to prevent an escape? I want to get the kind of heat lamps that clamp on, would that be possible?
(Please note: I fully realize Rubbermaid containers aren't ideal and I will NOT have him/her in it for longer than a month hopefully less than that. There's just no way I can fit a big enough tank in here right now and I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to get a skink at this expo and talk to an actual breeder as opposed to a pet store clerk who knows nothing and has an ipod hooked up to his ears the whole time I'm talking to him.)
Any other advice in addition to what I read on the site about questions to ask, checking for mites, etc?

personally i use rubbermaid containers for most of my animals including my bluey. and a note for any one who dislikes this form of caging my bluey's cage is 36"L x 24"W x 14"H (same size as Zach's vivs i believe) and is completely completely see through. i use them because my reptiles are in to top floor of the house and it is impossible to move heavy aquariums down two flights of narrow stairs to where i can clean my tanks, plus they are cat proof. i just cut the top out with a sharp utility knife or a rotary tool, then i drill holes in the plastic and use 1/4 inch bolts and nuts to secure the hardware cloth in place. hardware cloth is a heavy duty screen that you can buy at hardware stores like home depot. it comes in screen sizes from 1/8 of an inch to 1/2 an inch. i then go over the seams with aluminum tape used for sealing airvents. I know the care sheet says that these are not an "ideal choice" and yes they don't look as nice as the aquariums that my smaller animals are kept in; but the lids on my tanks are strong enough that i can stand on them. if you check the lids before hand you can get containers that lock securely enough to keep cats out and even the biggest escape artists snakes in. i just heat my tanks with 8.5" and 10" flukers clamp lamps placed on top of the screen to heat it. My skinks tank has the floor space of a 60 gal or a 40 gal breeder but is lightweight, cat/dog proof, easily heated, i can see in and he can see out, easy to move and clean and only cost $26 to produce. i'll post some pics of my tanks a little later if you wish.

I was kind of wondering what they had meant by "not ideal" personally as long as the enviroment is correct I don't see what the problem is.
