On the shoulder?

Postby Lizardqueen&Chuckie » Sat Apr 05, 2008 5:33 pm

I wanted to attemp to place Chuckie on my shoulder, because i dont think he really likes the touch of my hands, except on his head, and he likes to look around. Just wondering, how is it possible they dont fall off?
I know this sounds silly, but is there a certain method to it?
I just don't want him to fall

I usually wore a hoodie and had Quigs in there he would poke out his head and look around and there was no danger of losing his grip or anything.

I've never trusted my guys to actually stay on my shoulder, unless I'm sitting down on something soft (couch or bed) so if they fall it won't hurt. None of mine are willing to stay, they always try sliding down my back. It may be easier for a person with long hair, I wouldn't know.

I found the best option was to wear a hoodie (kangaroo jacket/bunny hug) and have the skink inside the hood or front pocket when wandering around. Most skinks seem to like being tucked into the hood.

Shoulder carrying can be dangerous with these guys simply because they're big, not necessarily evenily shaped, and they can't hold onto anything whatsoever, heh.

I often throw one over my shoulder though and hold his tail while I take him from one room to another. But I don't walk around with him just sitting up there. If you did it often, a fall would be inevitable at some point...and a fall from that far up could be fatal_s.

I will often times carry them from room to room with their head resting on my shoulder, but my hand is still on them ensuring they stay there. LittleFoot once traumatized the maytag delivery guy, he popped his head out of the back of my hoodie when i answered the door...i didnt think i have ever seen a grown man run so fast in terror in my life

Peyton goes right for our shoulders, but we carry her in our hands or holding on like a baby. Soon as we sit she goes right for the neck - unless its me,she likes my hair and 1/2 the time ends up on top of my head. Its funny and tickles like you wouldn't believe! LOL ! Hoodies do work great too!

Our Bluey really enjoys being carried around on a shoulder, looking over your back while walking around. If you've got long hair he can poke his head through, even better!

However, as stated, there needs to be at least one hand gently holding the lizard in place at all times; I find you don't need to hold them too tightly, just enough pressure on their backs to help them feel secure.

 Too bad that wouldn't work on telemarketers. You know what's funny? When we take our skinks outside all the little boys in the neighborhood are afraid. You'd think they'd like touching a skink. But I guess they've never seen one before and it must freak them out.

I've seen skinks on people's backs before. I think it's like throwing a toddler in the air, it scares me. And I've had to pluck Astro off my brother's back several times. To me it's just not worth the risk. However if I had a front pocket (like on a hoodie) I wouldn't hesitate to put Rocket in there when I gets bigger. That way I could keep an eye and a hand on him and not have to worry so much.

Has anyone every tried one of thoseharness things on a bluey?

i mean, i wouldn't use one, i would think the rope would cut into them, but i guess if you got a good padded one, it would be safer to have them over the shoulder. I personally don't like them though, just wondering

I would say it depends on the bluey, mine has spent a good half hour looking over one shoulder like a fur ,front legs one side, back legs the other, and his tail tight up under my chin, its fine until they decide to move and your skin takes a mean scratching, or he decides to ski jump down the inside of the teeshirt, belly to back bone, with claws like sylvester the cat on a boats hull, OOOOWWWWWWCCCCCHHHH.

Or he takes a fancy to your ear and wants a taster.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

On a serious note, someone on the forum did write about their bluey falling down their back off their shoulder and I think it broke it's back. It survived but I'm sure they learned a lesson. Does anyone remember who that was?

Duke likes my hoodie very very much ^_^
Either the big front pocket or the actual hood.
The only bad thing about the hood, is if they decide they don't want to stay in there anymore and try going out when you're walking about ^_^

I've had Duke try the sliding-down-my-back thing. Plus I'm ticklish so I don't keep Duke on my shoulder much. he seems to like the height though ^_^
