eating issues STILL

Postby GottaLuvHerps » Fri Apr 11, 2008 9:49 am

well some may remeber that i posted an issue that bella wasnt eating well. it was suggested that i only feed her every 2 or 3 days, and i have switched to that schedule. she is doing better, but im now having a new issue/question.

i know you can feed scambled eggs as treats, and i always save egg shells for her mix every feeding for the extra calcium. but what about raw eggs? bella LOVES them, but i only give her one about once a week (mixed with her greens/catfood/calcium powder/whatever else mix). is this too much? she eats EVERYTHING in the bowl when i do this, and its the only way she really seems to get any real amount of food in her. maybe im being paranoid about how much she should eat since i know my beardies that are smaller than her eat twice as much on a daily basis.

so, am i just dealing with more picky eating issues? shes being such a brat! the weather is finally getting nice around here, so im hoping to take her for a nice long trip outside when i take the kids to the park this weekend (if its not raining). i already took her on a trip to the pet store to get crickets for the rest of the gang - WOW did i get tons of looks lol. i love taking the reptiles with me, people freak. but she loved the attention for sure.

thanks again for the help gang!

Personally, my skinks rarely get egg, but that's probably because I'm too lazy to clean up after. When Bella eats eggs, does it affect her poo at all?

I love taking my skinks for walks! The neighborhood kids all love it too. However I'd suggest not taking a house lizard into a pet store, as the pet store animals could have something you don't want your skink getting.

her poops seem fine, good and solid and the right colors all around, although they dont happen very often. maybe twice a week? i check her cage daily (as i do with everyone), but dont see anything but every so often. but the egg poo is no different than if she hasnt had any for awhile. id probably be lazy about the clean up too if bella didnt take care of it all herself. lol
and dont worry, when i take her to the pet store, no one else holds or touches her, shes on a leash, and we dont go near the reptile section. and she gets a good bath when she gets home, just in case. im pretty picky about how my gang is treated in public, because although i know that most people are just curious, god forbid someone gets bit, or something happens to my babies.
i cant wait for walks to start! although im trying to figure out how to get 5 beardies, bella and 2 uros out for sun all in the same day lol

I think my skink is the only skink that doesn't go crazy for raw egg ;O

I tried it once and he just went the other way *gasp*

If bella's looking like she's losing weight then I guess it's okay to try and get more in her by using egg. But I think you should stay on the once a week egg schedule. Sooner or later you might experience a lovely smelly gooey poo if you feed Bella egg too frequently ;D

People shriek when I bring my skink out. It brings me JOY ^_^ I feel a tad insulted when they call it ugly and bulbous though ;_; INSOLENT FOOLS!!! >;O Your children are ugly and bulbous!! ;D

Unless Bella is losing weight I wouldn't worry about it. Keep offering healthy foods (maybe try making the veggies and healthy stuff more appealing with a bit of wet cat food instead of egg some days), and don't give in and give her exactly what she wants all the time.

My little Kira is kind of like that - not a big eater, but always has room for her favorite foods. She will look at a meal and decide its too healthy and only pick at it, but after a day or two she gets hungry and eats everything (different meal, same healthy foods!). She is fairly small, but healthy, active and gaining weight. Kira is only a picky eater when she isn't really hungry, but a couple times a week she gets hungry and eats everything (she is 5 months old, so still offered food daily).

Good luck with Bella - keep offering a variety of foods and watching her weight. She won't starve herself waiting for egg!

good thing my smiley is ^_^

I claim that one! HEEHEE~

Mine poos every three days..i think...I'm trying to feed him more frequently since he's younger than I thought...plus his appetite has gone up since the weather has warmed up ;D

And if I'm at home, he usually scratches the glass to get out. Lucky me, I take him outside and he goes bathroom ten seconds later ^_^

Less cleaning for me!~ WHeee~

As long as your skink is pooping and eating and not losing weight, I'm sure she's fine. Some just have slower metabolisms than others and only need to eat a couple times a week or so.
