Northerns in the sun (and some non-blueys)

Postby Johelian » Tue May 06, 2008 8:07 am

Hey all,
we've had a couple of decent sunny days here in South East UK and so I thought I would let my two have a bit of fresh air and sunshine:

Female Samba is on the left, and lighter coloured Rumba on the right.

There are still some bits of shed on both of their heads, although quite a bit has now come off.

I also got some of the rest of my gang out into the sun:

But some had to stay indoors...Jade the lacerta, in quarantine hence the paper:

Oh wow! Beauties you got there! Have your Northerns come around and started eating more? My two big females are ATTACKING the food as I am putting it in the cage now! :)

Love that pic of Big Teg! I am still contemplating getting a Chuck or Lacerta as well...I have always been interested in Lacertas...they are so cool looking!

Wish they "made" dwarf tegus...they get a little too beefy for me...bluey size would be nice! ;)

Heya :) Yup, they are both eating much more heartily now, thank goodness! The lacertas are quite new - I got a trio of them a couple of weeks ago, and they seem to be settling nicely. One of them has laid ~22 eggs as well, which was something of a surprise.

Those blueys are gorgeous!! They've got some serious orange! And your lacerta is beautiful! Wow, I'm jealous.

Someday I will have a red tegu. I've wanted one for going on 10 years, but I don't have the space to build the right enclosure right now.

Thanks for the comments everyone :) They are quite a shy pair - I dont think they were handled much by any of their previous owners - and I think they were initially a bit bewildered by being outdoors. Its something I want to keep doing over the summer though, as I really think the majority of my herps would benefit from some "real" rays! :)

Ive probably jinxed it now and we wont get any more decent weather...

Looks like quite a fun day! In that first pic Rumba looks like he is about to snack on that cigarette butt.

Lol, its not a cigarette butt - it IS a stone (I just noticed your other post! :) ), or at least a bit of cement or whatever from between the slabs. They dont seem to like going for the grass yet - they hang close to the house, I guess for security!

Thanks for the comments on their colour, I was really smitten with Rums colour when I got him as he is so pale compared to the Irian Jayas you normally see for sale here...but now that she has shed Samba is sooo pretty as well!

Yup, I am incubating the lacerta eggs...they have taken up pretty much all of the room in my incu. I also have some chuckwalla eggs in there which - with any luck - are due to hatch any day soon! :D I have never incubated eggs before so its quite exciting. Which reminds me actually - from the birds-eye picture of Samba, does she appear to be close to giving birth? She is definitely larger than when we bought her, but does she look like she could be gravid? Rumba is far slimmer than her!
