Odd Table Manners?

So Annubis has this odd habit (well it seems odd to me) of pulling her dish under her hide to eat and then ejecting the dish when she is finished. Last night I actually saw her drag the dish under the hide with her mouth. She will not take food from my hand or eat in front of me. I tried to give her an earthworm and she hissed at it.

I also saw her lay in her dish last night ... looked like she was coveting the food as she was not yet under the hide and I was watching. This girl is a riot. Anyone else have a skink that eats like this?
A picture of the culprit of course ...

Silly skink! I've had skinks try and attack the food dish but all of my guys could care less about if I'm watching or not.

You've only had her a little while right? Maybe this behavior will change once she knows food is coming again. Either way its really cute!!
I haven't seen anything like this - Nemo and Jax would eat absolutely everything I offered for the first little while until they got used to the fact that good food would come again.

Hey Tam, are you able to get her out of the cage, and if so, how does she react? Is she all shy and tries to get away?
I wonder if you could "starve" her for a few days, then feed her outside the enclosure to build the trust of being treated when she gets handled?
On the other hand, its pretty cute that she's so secretive and defensive! Scorpio skink, maybe?

Please get video if you can, this had me chuckling.

I'm imagining this plate coming out like, "I'm done now. Take it away."
If it's any consolation, when Rollie is done with his food, he goes under his plate, and carries it around on his head until it's wedged against his log in the same place. He's always relocating it there. Honestly I encourage it, because it's easier to reach there for me. Don't tell him that though or he'll stop.

I wish mine were that clean. After they're done eating they just lay in their food. Double points if they can work up a good poo to smudge into the left-overs.

Kyle hit the nail on the head. It's like room service.
Saille she is quite good now about being picked up. We had quite a lot of hissing and jerky movements to start but now she is fine. The problem I have is getting her back in the cage. She just doesn't want to go in. She seems to want to stay around my neck or on my head. I suspect as time passes she will loosen up a bit around the food issue ... we'll see. She sure is a unit. Totally cracks me up.

I love it, have you got access to a video cam? I bet she's a total riot.

That sounds hilarious. Seriously, can you get a video of this? Proof that skinks have such individual personalities

OMG...that is so funny, how cute is that. I would love to see that on video too, Clyde likes to lie in his bowl and Bonnie likes to take off with her food too

i think she's just protecting her food. I just got Palong, and when I fed him his first mouse, he straight up marched around his tank holding it in his mouth and then hid under his towel and ate it. SAME thing with a strawberry! it was a huge strawberry so he looked all proud running around with it in his mouth, but he hid, ate it, then brought what was left out.
silly skinks

My camera has a movie mode but I have never used it. I'll have to see what I can do.
