*Revived thread: Skink's Favorite Fruit???

i would have to say, without a shadow of a morsel of a shred of a doubt, that both of my skinks' favorite fruit....er, make that FOOD, is Kiwi. they both go BONKERS over it! Lissa practically eats her own hand off trying to lick the juice off of her fingers when she is done. even Hef, who is one of the most carnivorous skinks ever (almost never eats fruits or veggies unless I BLEND meat in it) devours it...what I do is I buy the kiwi's at the grocery store and than i let them sit out for like 4 or 5 days in a bowl until they are very ripe ( very soft to the touch, they give when you squeeze them). This is how my skinks love to eat them, when they are over-ripe and full of sweet juice, but the stores never sell them ripe so thats why i leave them out of the refrigerator for 4 or 5 days. I take one and cut it in half, half goes to them ( they each get half of a half) and I eat the other half (kiwi is one of the most nutritionally dense fruits). Than I give the skinks their treat. I give it to them as a separate treat aside from their meal, and never on the same day I feed them unless it is part of their dinner which I occasionally do, but I usually give it to them about once a week as a treat, and so they get their vitamin c and all of the other trace vitamins and minerals that kiwi's supply. give it a go, and i guarantee your skinks will be healthier and happier for it. Just remember to give it to them real ripe and cut it up into very small, mushy pieces. btw, what other fruits have you guys had success with???

I tried ripe fresh figs the other day! Very unique flavor, and evidently (thanks to Tiger), is crammed with Calcium.

Well, my PB will eat anything. But I think (hard to tell) her favs are fruit and chicken breasts. She's had: watermelon, strawberries, honeydew, cantaloupe, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, grapes, apple, peach. Again, she'll eat it all, but I think her favs are watermelon and strawberries. She'll climb through her food dish to get to them. Actually, it seems anything red she is like that with - like tomatos as well. Can they see colors? It seems she's partial to red foods.

I'm not sure if they see colors! I don't see why they wouldn't... but you mentioned they can't see red light. Not sure what the difference would be.
Funny, slurp hates strawberries. I do'nt know how, because I've never seen him try one to find out if he likes it or not. He always picks them out. (When he used to eat that is

)
Did you says raspberries were EQUAL in the ratios, or just a good staple diet? What was it about them again...

I forgot about the not being able to see the red light thing...but maybe it's different somehow? I dunno.
Raspberries are a great staple fruit that you can feed everyday - excellent source of calcium and fiber. Calcium: Phosphorous = 2:1
Oh yeah, and I've also given PB canned mandarin oranges.

I need to buy some fruit, I've been giving mostly greens. Haha, maybe that's slurp's problem.... He's organized a sit-in! (on strike)

I don't even know what a fig looks like but I looked for some in the supermarket the other day and couldn't find any. Mine have all gone off fruit for some reason but usually they like banana, grapes, kiwi fruit, orange, mandarine and blue berries. I haven't tried Rocky with strawberry, and either Remy, Chuckie or Ernesto doesn't/didn't like it but I can never remember which one doesn't like it.

My guys love cantelope, melon and plums. I've found fresh figs at my grocery store. You can buy them single. I can't remember how much though. I'm going to have to try kiwi.

With the BTS not being able to see red light, do they see it as white light??
