Skink bonding
Hello, I deleted this question earlier because I really messed it up. I really want to make a good decision in getting my future BTS. My concern is this. Some people have told me all reptiles are the same. Reptiles don't form bonds and if that is what I am looking for I should get a dog or cat. I don't want to get a dog or a cat. I want a pet that I can spend an hour or so a day. I do want some sort of bond. I want to feel that the animal is getting something from the relationship and not just tolerating me. If that is not realistic I want to know. I am asking for your experiences and if you do answer this please state if your skink was CB and if you started with a young skink. Thank you , Rob

Re: Skink bonding
Hi Rob,
So I absolutely believe that reptiles can form bonds with their owners and get to know their voices and want to seek out our attention. My own personal Merauke, Noodles if he hears my voice will come out of his cave and sit and wait for me to let him out or give a pat. He also is extremely bonded with my five year old. They will sit and watch cartoons together or videos. She can carry him all over the house too. We got him from a good friend of mine who breeds them. I didn't get him until he was 8 months old. He is truly the nicest and best lizard.
Now, my Mintaka a Northern I rescued off of Craigslist was from a well known breeder. However, the owner who purchased him, didn't do a whole lot with him. He was very skittish and only tolerates me holding him at first. He also was a master escape artist. He has mellowed over the years and my daughter can also hold him, but I don't trust him as much as my Noodles.
I have reptile friends who lizards and snake know them.
So my point is...they all are different. Each and every single reptile has its own unique personality. If you want a skink...I HIGHLY suggest from breeder. Also DO your research on them. It all helps in the long run.

Re: Skink bonding
Adorable, as always, Jan!
Captive bred (and proof of that as many are said to be and aren't) is your best choice.
They are born in human care and are for the most part fearless of humans as they haven't
had any traumatizing events caused by humans. I do believe that reptiles have memory capabilities, as I once recused a terrified abused iguana. The importation process is insane cruelty to say the least and not use bad words.
