Worm stuck in mouth

So I decided to feed my Blue Tongued Skink a worm today for the first time, Im quite new to having a skink and ive heard that earthworms are good feeder but when he ate it, he then opened his throat wide and the worm was wriggling at the top of his mouth burrowing up. I was able to remove the worm and he is acting normal but the worm was going up into a small opening that I believed lead to his nose since after the worm was removed he sneezed quite a lot. I just wanted to check to see if this happened with anyone else and nay ways to avoid this, also if I need to take my skink to the vet or not?

I'm sure he would have gotten it down. If he is a juvenile possibly give him smaller pieces, if an adult just let him have at it. I've seen them handle much bigger than an earthworm.

This can happen sometimes for their first worms, or even with any particularly squirmy worm. Once the skink gets the hang of eating worms though it should be good :)
