URGENT Advice requested re emergency

Postby Bluetonguefamily » Wed Sep 23, 2026 7:38 am

Please no judgement - I’m posting this on behalf of a MOP.
She found an injured Bluey. The Australian state she lives in has historically had extremely poor outcomes with taking injured blueys to the vet (as they ‘just’ EU instead of treating).

MOP is extremely frustrated and wants to help this bluey which appears to have been bitten on the head. No canine marks are visible, so the appearance of the bite suggests it could have even been another bluey. Initially I thought the bite was recent, but on closer inspection, it appears perhaps older. At least a few weeks maybe. The poor bluey is quite thin, but getting small amounts of food a couple of times a day, so not to overdo it. We aren’t sure if there is such a thing as refeeding syndrome.

Looking for urgent recommendations, please.

She’s happy to take the bluey to the vet and pay for treatment, but she’s extremely afraid that they may only offer EU. She’s had countless friends who have surrendered only slightly injured blueys and they have all been EU. It’s a travesty! Plus if the injury is old, is it too late for antibiotics?

She has fresh dog antibiotics at home and suggested she could grind them up, but isn’t sure about the dose or if the antibiotic would even be suitable.

Many thanks for any constructive advice.
