BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Yes, it became official this week, we have officially been released from LAS VEGAS and Nellis Air Force Base. Guess where we are moving??? ......Any guesses? Well I guess I will do a fun little poll for this one. HINTS: It will be a LONG trip and of course ALL of our pets (except the snakes who will be going to a wonderful herper friend) will be going with us. Quarentine is not a problem so we will be taking EVERYONE!!! We will however be temporarily housed so cannot have ANY damages from cat claws. Also, there is DANGER from wildlife if any of the cats ever got out of the house accidentaly. I am not sure if my one cat who has a history of sneaking out would be entirely safe or not. I have a loving home that would take him tommorow but since we are not leaving until May of next year I have soemthing to think about. As soon as we get started packing I will need LOTS of advice on taking the skinkies on the plane, how to get thier tanks to where we are going.....Maggie and Tito are mooooooving!!!!! Anyhoo, guess where we are going....if you like.......I am SO EXCITED!!!!!

Quarentine is not an issue.

My guess is Hawaii. Although, I'm not sure what type of wildlife they have there. Maybe Alaska would've been a better bet.

I said NC because I thought I remembered you saying something about moving there a while ago. But not 100% sure.

Yes it does.

I just checked the list to see if skinks are on the restricted list (they are) and I was saddened to find that if I ever move to Hawaii, I won't be able to bring my Giant clam.

I voted Florida. But it was a toss up with Alaska. (the danger of roaming pets getting "snapped" up.)

I just checked the list too. Blue tongues are restricted to research and exhibition. So unless Maggie is becoming a zoo blue, I think Hawaii is off the list. Darn! I should've done my research. However, I did find that if cats and dogs meet the requirements, they can be inspected and released at the airport w/o quarentine. I should've gone with Alaska.

The 5 day or less requirements and airport release are pretty hefty.

120 day stateside quarantine with pre-approval paperwork
OIE-Flourescent Antibody Serum Neutralization Test
mandatory microchipping and very specific flea and tick treatment with certification from a vet
$165-$265 processing fee
If you had a puppy, it would take 10 months before it was eligible to travel.

They don't make it easy to bring your pet with you. But it is a step up from the 130 day mandatory quarantine at their facility that they used to have. They used to have an offshore floating facility years ago. (I always pictured a bunch of dogs and cats on a life raft.)

I admire Hawaii's dedication to keeping the state rabies free.

AMEN!!!! A caravan style mass exodus to Australia!!!!!
I just made this list of all the places I would LOVE to go but in reality, we are actually getting out of the active duty military life and Tim will be going into the NORTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD for eight more years. That way we have 20 total years and will still get our full military retirement at 60. We are excited as all of our family is in North Carolina and Tim is from there. We will be living in Greensboro, smack dab in the middle of the state and only about 60 miles from Raleigh and SHADOWFAX!!!!! I cannot wait to meet her and Maya!!!! I will be sending out resumes in the next few months and may be going back to look at houses and move the kids as soon as this June or July so we can get settled. TIm is going to be gone alot anyway so there is really no reason for us to stay here in Vegas. He cannot officially clear the AFB here at Nellis until May 2008 but the kids, the pets and the skinks will be eastern bound ASAP!!!! The military will pack us up and move us so North Carolina, here we come!!! Thanks y'all for voting and having fun with this!!!!!!

Ooooooo ooooooooo, I wanna come to the house warming party!! Then I'll invite you to mine, b/c I will be buying a house this summer (went to talk to the mortgage nazis today!).
