(as you can see in the background, what WAS a vegie garden is now nothing because of the drought. because of the recent rain the past week theres more grass than ive seen in a year!)

It's been a little easier where I am, but yes, it's been dry a lot of places.

My step-dad in western Sydney keeps a great garden going. He recycles his grey water from the washing machine, straight onto the garden. (He's hooked the "out" hose up to a long piece of hose/piping that's long enough to put on any of the garden beds, even the ones out the front!) He composts everything (except the no-nos like meat) and mulches with hay to keep the water in the soil. He also has a big water tank, that catches every drop of rain water. If things are really tight where you are, you can try the bucket-in-the-shower trick too!

ooh, speaking of the rainwater, my girlfriends dad catches the runoff from the verandah and fills a wheely bin after just a small rainfall!

Maybe I'm just being over-sensitive, but I really dislike the fact that sexuality can be used as a derogatory or offensive term. "Gay" seems to be the new "retard" or "spastic".

We aren't really doing much either. We have a yard, but it's all grass. And sort of tough, bush grass rather than "lawn" per se, so it always looks half dead and brown anyway!

I have my pot plants positioned under the edges of my house, so they each get watered when it rains. How does that work? Well, it works when your house looks like ours does.

Actually, I'm pretty sure thesilverbeast meant to type Grey Water, which was talked about in the previous post. I just felt like pointing it out. It made me laugh to think of gay water. I'd also just like to say I do support homosexuality and am against the misuse of the word and the idea.

I'd of thought by now Ruth you'd of realised, we all accept each other here{I think}, I reckon everyone has to see the bad in whats written typo or not

It's so hard with typos. You miss you on the whole intended meaning of a sentence if just one little word is wrong. I've made some shockers in text messages and ICQ or MSN!

I think what probably threw me was that I use the English spelling "grey", not the US, "gray". If thesilverbeast had written "gey", I probably would have recognised it as the typo it was!

Like the house? We're renting it. The real estate agent was cracking baked-bean tin jokes before we even got in the front door to check it out, and Wallflower Girl's dad calls it "half a swiss roll". (Don't know if that joke will make sense for the USA folk.)

It's a nissan hut, either ex-migrant or ex-military accommodation from about 50 years ago or so. There's a bunch round our area, at least half a dozen on our block alone. No ceiling cavity - the walls are as curved within as they are without. It's pretty well insulated though - even when it's pouring with rain it's not loud.

I know what you mean mate ,I like your house it does remind me of plane hangers{in mini} or the Anderson shelter{WW2}, nice and different. If I ever get to move to Auss I'd love a Queenslander in Bluey blue of course
