New BTS

Hi all, I just got a BTS for Mother's Day, and was wondering what type it was...when doing my research before getting him (her?) I didn't realize there were so many types. Hopefully the pictures will upload right.
He is living in a 55 gallon tank..loves to eat....is very friendly....and loves going to the park with our Sulcattas...(most kids bring their dogs to the park, we bring reptiles) I am using reptile bark for a substrate, but I do notice him sneezing occasionally, usually after waking up in the morning and burrowing out of his tunnel...is reptile bark too dusty?

What a great present! He's very pretty.
I'm by no means one of the experts here, but my guess is he's an IJ. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along and give a more definite id.
As for the sneezing, I do know this is very normal, nothing to worry about. Quite cute too, lol.
I don't know about the reptile bark. Is he able to burrow in that? I use aspen shavings and they love to burrow down in it.

As for substrate, I believe it is known to be a bit dusty. I would use aspen.

He burrows like crazy in it....the first time he did it, the kids paniced because they couldn't find him....good lesson in camoflauge for them....
I had another question, i read on previous threads that they keep teh lights on for over 12 hours, right now he is on a 7am to 7pm schedule, i generally turn off his lights after he burrows in the log at night, is 12 hours a decent time for them to be up and roaming?

Awww!
He does burrow doesn't he! I've never used the stuff so wasn't sure. The aspen is also dusty so I don't see where one is better than the other really.
I think most everyone has them on 12 hours, but I have read that you can adjust it to your own schedule. Mine are on 10a to 10p. NOBODY moves much around here in the early mornings!
What have you named him?

Whether you use aspen, repti bark or carefresh really depends on you and your bluey. I've used all three. My first bluey was on reptibark and was fine. As I got more I found that reptibark was too expensive for the cages I had. Plus some of my guys didn't seem to like burrowing in it. I then switched to carefresh. They seemed to like burrowing in that but I thought it might be contributing to my shedding problems (I don't think it did any more) so I switched to aspen. I'm still on aspen because my guys like to burrow in it, it looks pretty, is easy to spot clean and gives me the most for my money.

No, News paper very bad. Newspaper Ink never actually dries and can potentially make pets of any species sick, either by ingestion or by inhaling the chemical vapors.

You can use paper towels if you want, but they do like to burrow so if you can get them a substrate to burrow in do it . You can go online and buy some aspen bedding too. That's what I had to do.

it would be really expensive to ship it here. oh well.
major newspapers here are using Soya based ink os it is non toxic, ive used it in my other herps, and it was just ok

use recycled paper kitty litter. It's like that carefresh stuff. looks alot like snail pellets but grey instead of green. Should be a selection in your pet food section at your local supermarket. Just make sure you get the recycled paper variety. My blueys have eaten it, and it just passes through like food, after all - it's just paper.
