Spots Stew in the fridge/freezer?

I picked up a can from Kroger to see how Marley likes it, but it would take him forever to eat a whole can. If i open and give him a little, how long can the rest stay in the fridge, or can I freeze it?

I usually keep mine in the fridge for a week or so. I don't know if it would last longer than a week or not. I'm sure if you put it in some tupperware it would possibly stay longer.

Don't put it in the fridge in the can - transfer it to a good container w/ a tight fitting lid. I'd say use it within 3 days.

I transfer the contents to an ice cube tray. After freezing, pop the cubes out into a freezer zip-loc bag and you have mini-meals to defrost.

Canned pet foods label themselves "stews" when they want to increase the amount of water they can add. Basically giving you less product for more money.

Under AAFCO regulations, the maximum percentage moisture content for a pet food is 78%, except for products labeled as a "stew," "in sauce," "in gravy," or similar terms. Some of these exempted products have been found to contain as much as 87.5% moisture. This doesn't sound like much difference until the dry matter contents are compared. For example, a product with a guarantee of 87.5% moisture contains 12.5% dry matter, only half as much as a product with a 75% moisture guarantee (25% dry matter).

Both - they have a cat food and a dog food variety. I use the original cat food.

Oooo, thanks Ark, I think i'm gonna use that ice cube tray technique! Good idea. I picked up the dogfood version. I also noticed how water is the number 1 ingredient, but it does have a lot of different veggies in it. So it will be like he's eating a balanced veggie meal with some meat, and he won't need to take a drink break in the middle, lol.

I haven't used Spot's Stew, but it is probably one of, if not the best foods on the market as far as safety, quality ingredients, and preparation is concerned.

....although it does smell more like stew/soup than typical cat food....

It reminds of a product at Petsmart once....it was food for your dog that you could eat too; so you could share. Awww.

I think that's one of the reasons I use the cat food - that and it seems easier to find the cat food here. If i remember correctly, doesn't the dog food have pasta? I think I also preferred the look of the cat food....as if the blueys care!

(Ice cream treats for dogs. They sell it in the freezer section of grocery stores with Klondikes, Good Humor bars, Freeze Pops,etc.)

Isn't BHA and BHT the bad stuff? I always avoided those frosty paws...too many 'big words' in the ingredients.

hi guys. since feeding is on this topic.. can i feed my bts a "tuna" or "salmon" flavored cat food? or just chicken and beef flavored?

i would personally stay away from any cat food's other than the spot's stew or other all natural ones. But I wouldn't advise getting one with fish in it, or anything thats flavored with something not in it.
