BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hi everyone, i'm mike and i just joined the forum today. I Recently got 2 blueys from someone who had bought gravid females by accident. I have been into herps for a while with a breeding pair of ball pythons, their eggs are hatching, turtles, i use to have bearded dragons, leopard geckos, even toads. So the blue tongues are my next choice. I am hopeing to go to grad school soon for conservation biology, so i can become a professional herpetologist.

Can't wait to learn even more about these awsome lizards!

I acctually work at the Peabody Museum one day a week (sometimes two depending on how much time i can put on that day).

Already did several times, then several more once i acctually got by bluies home. Just reffered to it last night for the cactus preperation.

My brother's neighbor has two bushes? of eastern prickely pear cactus and they are like taking over his garden so he said "Take as much as you want!" so i only grabbed one small paddle to see if they like it, and apparently they do!!

If you get a cactus pad that has been recently been pulled from the main part of the cactus (at least with prickly pear variety) you can plant them and they will grow roots in and grow. This has been helpful for me with the torts and now with Littlefoot...he loves the prickly pear fruit and some chopped up pads....next time he eats it i'll have to take a pic, it looked like he had red lipstick on.

My guys went nuts over it! Does it take long to grow? i did plant some small buds. I bet the torts love em!

About two months for them to get decent roots and start growing . I water mine every other week (in the Arizona sun) and they are thriving. I got one plant last year and now have 4 thriving plants and the original is fruit bearing.

can you post a pic {too lazy to go look}please, as I've got a row of cacti on my window sill with no i.d. tags

These two I grew from the fruit bearing one, I did this last year and that is how much they grew. I don't normally keep them in the garage but the kids were washing the car and didnt want them soaked and soaped.

I am going to transplant them into the yard soon. They have very fine needles that you have to watch out for...I scrape them off with a knife before feeding.
