Another newbie question....

Postby LittleFoot » Sat Jun 09, 2007 6:10 pm

I looked on the care sheets and couldn't find anything on this, is there an average growth rate for blue tongues? How big do they get, how long are they are 6 months, 1 year, etc.... I know each type and each individual is different, but I was wondering if there was a guesstimate on growth rate. Thanks in advance for any info. :)

It usually depends on how much they eat. Like with any animals, the more you feed young with proper nutrition, the quicker they develop. I do know the average growth period lasts from 1 to 2 years.

In the states, blueys can be pretty much full grown at one to 1.5 years....this entirely depends on how much you feed them. As was mentioned on another thread by Geoff, in the wild, they may not reach full growth (size and sexually) until 2-3 years.

IJ's and Northerns are bigger than Indos, but you could expect either to be around a foot long or longer easily by six months.

+ 2.2 Irian Jaya (Slurpy, Nona, Sassy, Cool Moe Dee)
+ 1.1 Eastern (Eugene, Enzo)
+ 1.2 Northern (Niko, Pearl, Peach)
+ 1.0 Tanimbar Island (TQ)

I think you answered your own question with the word guesstimate, each sub species has its own anomollies

good care +good diet = good growth
MMMmmmmm... Something???????
