BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I've been letting my two out together (supervised) and the only gender identifying trait I've seen is that the first couple times Freckles did some tail wagging. So..I've been assuming Freckles is a girl. Mostly they just stay away from each other and ignore each other.

But..the other day after they had been together quite awhile and I looked away for a second, one of them (not sure which) got mad and the next thing I knew they were biting at each other. Freckles was going for Wings stomach, and even after separating them, Freckles was biting his OWN stomach.
Freckles left these two perfect little spots on the blanket where he was sitting. So now I'm thinking Freckles is probably male, right? I didn't actually see the hemipenes, but doesn't this indicate two?

so freckles left the spots and was tail wriggling,do u have a pic of the 2 of them,if u r sure freckles left those spots id say boy yeah,did u say biting himself,maybe the other bluey told him to go mate him self,lol,males can do the tail wriggle as well as females,usually wriggle differently though,females generally a slow squirmy type and males wriggle vigorously,especially when combating and excited,but i cant say either way,so hope they r a pair,just watch them closely if u intend introducing them again,better to be safe than sorry,keep us posted on them,and would love to see pics of them

Thanks Richard. Yup, Freckles definitely left the spots as soon as I pulled him away from Wings. I was assuming they were both females since their lack of interest either way until now. Here's some pics if this helps.

The picture is awful small, but I would guess that those are just urates....

If he was biting at the stomach specifically, that's a good male sign. Males usually circle each other and just snake bite at each other's heads (in my experience).

I put a bigger pic on there now. I figured they were urates but he left the two like that instantly when I set him down on the blanket after pulling him away from Wings. One on each side of his tail.

Yep, those aren't sperm plugs. But still likely a male based on behavior!

i second zach,s opinion,males usually go for the head,also females can get narky as well,freckles looks to have a meaty head,read jowls,compared to wings,i cant tell much from those pics though,except they r lovely looking bluies,what was wings reaction to getting grief from freckles,ive found when males try to mate and the female isnt receptive at the start the male will chase and try to latch on,usually around the stomach to mid drift to try arouse the female into accepting him,and hold her from running away,the fun of blue tongues im afraid,they have many subtle differences in there behaviours,which dont help when trying to sex them,wings looks to have a nrrower head,aslo there tail differences,but yeah,i cant reliably say either way,are they of similar lengths and build,ie,age wise?

If you think it was urate guys wouldnt there have been a puddle of water to accompany it? that pic looks dry around the deposits, do the sperm plugs come out with extra fluid or just sacks alone, where was he/she led in comparison to the spots,if in the middle then he'd be firing at quater to three, hee hee

They are about the same age, Freckles is about a month younger, but he is much smaller than Wings. Wings is 21", 2 lbs. 4oz, while Freckles is only 18 inches. Haven't got an accurate weight on him yet, he's too curious and won't sit still long enough, but he's much lighter too.

Leigh, that's what I was thinking too. There was nothing "wet" to go with the spots. And he "fired" them both off at exactly the same time. He was pretty much right in the middle so I'm thinking hemipene on each side would do that.
