Marley eating blue penguins (NEW pics)

Postby Omega » Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:21 pm

Before Marley's severe constipation earlier, I got a few good tongue shots of him eating some Spot's Stew. Forgot to take the camera out while he was eating snails and some collards, but the stew gets his tongue out nicely for pics!

Hey Dad!

Mmmm, tasty penguin!

Updated pics! I fed some snails and wax worms today, then did some stew with collards and tried for some more tongue pics. My timing sucked, but here ya go! He didn't seem to eat around the greens in the stew today at all, and he even liked a Wax worm wrapped in collard greens burrito (no pics, tomorrow i'll get one though, lol).

"Hmmm, this looks ok."

"OMG, this is sooo good!"

Nice ripple shot:

"Whoa dude... you didn't tell me this was "special" stew.... whoa...."

Looks like his nose scales are ready to come off too....they will likely pop right off if you rub it with your finger.

Great pictures.

Yeah, I had been expecting to pet him and those fall off for the past few days but they finally did come off a couple hours later, hehe, good eye! What you see there is just the spots stew(with that black mass being a half chewed up snail that he later finished munching). Lately I've been letting him eat a few snails and some greens by themselves, then defrost some spot's stew and sprinkle the leftover snail/greens on top for him(i've found once he's eating stew thats his first priority, lol, so thats what prompted the snails/greens beforehand originally). That way I have to pick less snails out of stew and rinse em off to go back in the tank after. He also gets some fruit, but I usually feed it to him at another time in day. He seems to love blueberries, and is less excited about raspberries, but will usually eat one or 2. I feel a little guilty using the stew often, but it really does have a variety of veggies in it that I couldn't really provide him, and with the snail meat, greens/fruits, and anything else good for him I see on sale that I throw in... I would think it's a pretty decent diet. Would you guys agree?

He was exactly 3 months old on the 15th. It's weird, sometimes his tongue looks massive, and other times very small, all depends on how he's moving it I guess and how flat it is I guess. He's definitely going for max surface area to lap up stew though, which makes for great pics!

I've been feeding him once a day, usually anytime from 3-5 in the afternoon. But sometimes I'll offer him some fruit while I have him out at night as a treat or something.

He usually just eats most of what I make, but after the first couple meals you get an idea of how much to prepare. Sometimes he finishes it, in which case I prep a pretty small portion and see if he is still hungry.

He's right about 10 inches now. If i remember correctly he was 7 inches when he arrived at 6 weeks old.... so I guess he's been gaining about an inch every 2 weeks... dang, he must be eating well, haha.

I wish mine would take blended food, it would be so much easier.

I put a few snails in the other day, but he's about to shed and didn't seem interested, after lights out he must of sneaked the lot down, smashed shell by morning, so they do eat when in shed even if you dont think they will.

Drew - can you find the turkey one? That's probably better - turkey is sweeter and smells stronger too - mix a little basil in aswell! (lucifer put me on to that one and she's right - the smell makes them smash it down!)

Name = Basil - Ca:P = 2.2: ? - Protein = 2.5% - Fat = 0.6% - Notes = High vit. A (39IU/g)

Food chart says to feed occasionally - I'd say yeah, fresh basil should be ok but obviously not all the time - I put a bit more than a pinch of dried basil in water then use it to stink up the food as Lucifer suggested to me. Worked well!
