Will this tank work for a new bluey?
All the baby bluey pictures are driving me insane. I just posted an ad on Craig's list for a large tank and someone offered me a free 55 gallon (he thinks!.) I haven't gone to see it but I don't know if it will work for a new bluey. The dimensions he listed were 48''x12''x24''. The one that worries me the most is the width. I don't think a full-grown bluey could comfortably turn around in a tank like that. If it won't work for a bluey (
), could I use it for a beardy or some other cool herp? (No, I can't do snakes because I couldn't feed rodents!
) I don't want to turn down "free" but I don't want to purchase a bluey and then have to buy another tank. What do ya'll think?

I personally don't like the width on 55 gallons - for the reason you mentioned. Also, the height would only put the UV light even further away from your bluey - unless you somehow lower it into the tank to get it closer. Just my thoughts.

Don't turn it down! A free tank is a free tank!! We have our beardie in a tank like that. It was also a free find. We had her in a bigger enclosure, but decided that since she never moved, we'd put her in the more narrow tank. She seems very content. At one point, we considered flipping the tank on end and putting a few of our female cresties in it but decided it wouldn't work so well.
Whenever I find free tanks, I take them. Never know when you're gonna want a new pet!

I almost didn't get my current setup for the exact same reason. In the end though, I think Marley will have enough room. And definitely don't turn down a free cage. If you are thinking about a baby a 55 gallon, regardless of width, would be plenty big for months, if not permanently.

When I first had Baylee, I had him in a tank that size. It was really hard to get the hot spot warm enough because the tank was so high. Also he freaked out every time I tried to get him out from above (that one might just be a Kei thing but something to note). The width was okay because he was still little but I can't imagine using it for an adult bluey.
