BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello!
I'm looking for 2 eastern BTS, but true easterns (tiliqua scincoides scincoides)... There is many confusion around this subspecies, and I've seen Tanimbar, Iriana Jaya and sometimes indonesian saled like a T. scincoides "Irian Jaya" or T. scincoides scincoides!!! The other problem is hybridization between true esatern and Irian jaya because breeders don't konw the difference and mix them...
I made some personnal research (in the bible! "bluetongue skinks, a contribution to tiliqua and cyclodomorphus", in the caresheet of this website, in the website of Andrew seike and others...) about the difference between eastern BTS and rian Jaya BTS, especially for non temporal striped eastern wich could be confused with Irian Jaya... The coloration of the forelegs seems to be the better method to know if it's an Irian Jaya or an eastern... Dark patterned for Irian Jaya, not for Eastern...
But is it sure at 100%???

These two are probably the most difficult to differentiate from a beginner's stand point, but once you've seen so many it's really not too hard. IJ's often have very wide heads, and almost always have the checkered front legs. Easterns usually have thinner heads, and should pretty much always have perfectly clean forelegs. I know you know this, but it really does help! I'm not sure what the BTS situation is in France, but here in the states we have so few Easterns that it's really not difficult to tell. It DOES get difficult though when trying to ID mixed animals. Any combination between Northern, Eastern, and IJ can really get tough. Notice the back patterys of Easterns and Northerns as well. You'll often see triangular patterns. The IJ's almost always lack this. We could get into depth more but it gets to the details that are so fine, you probably wouldn't be able to pick them up.

There's real probelm in Franec about BTS.. Much confusion between species and subspecies... Only one petshop seems to know what species they're saling!!! But they still write "Tiliqua scincoides ssp "Irian Jaya"... In tarde show, included german traders, I bought a tanimbar wich was named: Tilqua scincoides scincoides and the origin: Indonesia!!!
Now I really want to breed true and pure eastern (with temporal band if I find it)...

ps: IJ is still not named??? We must find a name for it!!! Tiliqua griffithii

I agree with Zach, but be carefull, as my IJ has completely clean legs, not un-common but not always the norm.

I think I would definitely go as far as to say that it's NOT common. I've only seen probably 10 IJ pictures that have perfectly clean legs like your's (out of thousands).

I've got a little collection of pictures I keep of IJ's with clean forelegs because I find it interesting.

Haha, I'm hardly worthy of that honor, but I'm not convinced that IJ actually DO deserve a naming, and if they did, I can't figure what it would be; there's just SO many varieties, colors, shapes and sizes.

How about T. Scincoides Varietas?

I believe the reference is to toilet paper, and I hope you don't throw that on the ground! HAHA

Mate ,the lady is refering to your under crackers, do you hang them up? do you do a side or front crease when ironing

After what Holly tells me of Zach's cleaning habits (or lack thereof) I think HE needs to be called "Tiliqua Griffilthii."

Actually, the folder or scruncher thing is poking fun at a toilet paper commercial that's been airing in Oz for the last year or so.
