BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I was watching my new baby skink that I got yesterday, and he pooped right in his food bowl. It was very runny, is this bad? So far he has only eaten a little bit of grape, collard greens, squash, and a few snails in his new home.

Could this be from the plane ride from California to Indiana to Minnesota?

He is also not tame, and he hisses whenever I get near him. I expect he will tame up after he gets used to his new home, and his new human friend.

I hear diarrhea is normal from time to time in blue tongues and mine love to go to the bathroom in thier food bowls and water bowls. My blue didnt like bananas and pooped all over them. He wont eat them at all.

It happens, however, diet and stress will play a role.

Keep an eye on it, if it gets worse, or simply keeps up, have a reptile vet specialist number handy.

He will need to get use to his new environment. He is probably a bit stressed.
Also, what you are feeding him sounds pretty good-do you know what he was being fed before you got him?

The diarrhea could be a result of adjusting to a new diet.

Also, almost all our blueys have done their business in their water bowels. If your bluey has pooped in his food dish he may poop in his water dish on occasion. Keep an eye on that and make sure to change the water right away.

also ray told me on my baby to feed him cat food almost completely until he gets bigger cause of the protien.

Meat is very important for baby blueys.

Make sure to chose a cat food that does not have meat byproducts.
The more natural the food source the better. Shredded chicken is also a good choice.
It wouldn't hurt to chop up and include some collard greens in the cat food.

If you want my 2 cents - it's quite common for your baby to have runny poop when you switch diets and/or go through some traumatic event such as shipping. Don't worry so much about it. Get the temps up, feed it according to ray and you'll be fine.

Some brands such as pedigree (the brand I use) has rice in it which I believe hardens the stool.

Offer it some greens later but if it eats it great! if not don't force feed it. It'll eat the greens when its ready but you can always try. Tigergenesis and those experienced here can direct you to some greens that would be great to add. But remember you don't have to over do it. Skinks do well even on the most simple of diet and I don't feel guilty in the least for keeping it that way. My skinks are thriving, breeding and growing well. I have some skinks that ate nothing but kibble for the majority of their lives before they came into my possession. Zoos and other breeders even feed their skinks animal protein ONLY for their entire lives - going on decades now.

Good luck and remember there's many ways to feed your skink well.

I became one of those folks, so disgusted with both the problems and handling of the problems of the pet food lately, I bought a pet-only food processor and make my own bluey food. It's cheap and *I* control the quality. Beef heart and fresh turkey breast are favorites.

Boris my 6month old IJ recently moved to his new enclosure bigger and better. His enclsoure used to be a large rubber maid now its a custom wooden glass fronted enclosure, he used to be in the living room now satys with me in my bedroom. No diet was change but his poop became runny for the the last two occasions.. could this be dairrhea? could he be sick? He eats well, chicken, cat food, bokchoy, mustard, eggs, papaya, tomatoes, mangos, bananas, etc..
or could he be adjusting with his new enclosure?
its raining here and quite cold comapred to last month. should i raise temps to helo with the poop?
