BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hey all!!

Does anyone recognize this eye condition??

Before ya flip out, she has already been to the vet is on anti-biotics and we are awaiting cluture results.

It showed up two days ago with a red irrated lower eye-lid, now it seems to be in both eyes.

Any help??

Looks like some stuck scales from a shed, but I'm no expert.

It does look like shed...is there any discharge, redness, swelling?

I agree that it looks like shed although she has not shed anytime recently. Unless she is starting to shed from the eyes first, it doesn't seem to be that simple of an answer.

It started out two days ago red and irratated. Since then, the redness went away and now they appear crusty. She tries to scratch them and when she attempts that they get very pale pink, moist, and puffy for a second and then it relaxes again.

Ive been trying to looks for the post from DIXIE. If i recall, didnt she have a problem with her blueys eye? If i have a different member let me know..i cant find it..i was trying to compare pics and problems.

It could be blepharitis or conjunctivitis. The crust probably means it is infected.

What substrate are you using?

Jerri has had intermittent eye and mouth problems for quite a while. Terramyacin has helped the eye issue and I'm using Vetadine for her mouth.



She'll get better for a while but it comes back.

This does look like shed. Quigs had a problem with shed around the eye and it looked very similar all it took was repeated soakings and lightly using a ultra soft toddler tooth brush to remove the scales and Quigs was as good as new when his next shed came around. I hope your baby feels better I almost panicked when i found Quigs with his eye all watery and half shut.

Looks like stuck old shed, which inturn has been infected, does your fella have a little mouth rot or is it stuck food, could be related?

In reviewing your posts, I noticed a few of you recomended to wipe the area with salt water on a cotton ball....

Would that hurt them at all? Salt water in the eyes?

Also as a side note: DO antibiotics clear up conjunctivitis? They are on baytril and the eyes are not getting any better, could it still be pink eye or should the antibios have taken care of it??

I have a question. Would it hurt the skink to try an over the counter Conjunctivitus eye drop that is actually made for people? Just to see if it improves? I know some things that we take(Benadryl, etc.) are okay for animals but others are lethal.

I'm very interested to know about the eye drops though. It would be good to know. And nice to save the vet bill.

I'm not sure what implications the steroids used in people eyedrops for conjunctivitis would be. I wouldn't risk it.
