BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

What is the spot on the top of my blueys head? I have seen it in others so I know it is normal. I know some geckos have scales on the top of their heads that sense light and dark, is this what it is, or is it something else?

It is the parietal (puh-Rye-uh-tul) eye as Leigh said. Like the photo-electric cells that turn outdoor lights on and off at daylight and dusk, these, in lizards, are an additional means of regulating day and night cycles in those species that have them, usually diurnal lizards.

They use it to look into someone's soul. Usually to see if it's ripe or rotten.

I stand corrected Kyle, that's what I meant to say.

As far as I know, it's not scientifically proven what it does -- I've read the light and day thing, navigational aide, and even a predator alarm for overhead attacks.

My beardie uses hers for orientation for sure , she'll keep the sun directly and dead centre behind her when baskinkg outdoors but not sure for what else, its funny to tilt her up/down and she nods ,and side to side for a "no" answer

Hahahah True Mate Kyle i have one bobtail that was scalped by a lawn mower right. So the top of his head lookes like a english war helmet ww2. crazy looking . Well he,s eye has gone blue and you can really see it well.Cause its not covered by shingle poor baldy , i dont know if he should go back to the wild.

The 3rd eye knows all tracks the sunlight so they know when to head for cover in the afternoon. And tells them its Morning. Natures light sencor .

They would prolly just sleep there life away without it hahaha

Its a third eye, skinks use it to detect light overhead, in the wild this is used to see birds over head and then get away from them.
