A nice BIG warning in the title as well next time, please!
I wouldn't be sending him back into the wild. He has nowhere to store his fat for the winter now. Poor little fella

Sometimes I'm a bit 'ignorance is bliss' but Ian, you put me to shame. Keep up the great work. I don't know how you do it, but thank goodness you do.

Ugh. Poor bobtail!

You've got to get the rats under control. Sounds like a mass extermination is in order. Rats will take out any helpless small animal, or any animal that can't move fast. Birds are especially vulnerable in the dark because they can't see. I've lost wildlife and chooks to rats in the night. I do not live near any cities or towns, but wood rats occasionally show up. Once rats get a taste for meat, look out.

In the states there is a product called "One Bite". I hate using poisons, but it is the only effective way to take out the population. Hide the baits underground or in a lockbox, and do a lockdown of all your critters so no one can get at the dead rats. Be vigilant for rat bodies and remove immediately so no one eats them. If you can find One Bite, it works quickly and effectively.

Good luck!

Ian you need a nice big HUNGRY snake that likes a rat or 20, will that poor fella survive with so much tail gone, how much will regenerate seeing as its so close to the body?
