Did you keep the name?

Postby mom22wins » Sat Jul 14, 2007 11:55 am

I am so excited to finally be on my way to be a BTS mommy! I've done so much reading on the subject, my hubby thinks I've become obsessed! I just don't want to overlook anything that may make his/her life more healthy and enjoyable.

Part of what I've been obsessing over is a name for my new baby. I've got several on the table. Then, I realized Zach usually gives the babies a nickname from the start so that he can describe their personality to those who are interested in purchasing.

I was wondering if any of you decided to change the nickname that Zach gave your BTS when he/she was first described. Or did you decide that the name suited it perfectly?

Decisions... decisions...

I changed the name that Zach and Renee had given my little guy. His name was Freckles when I got him, and now I call him Baloo. This has always been a habit of mine though. When I get a new animal, I usually change its name. I did it when I got my horse and both of my dogs. I didn't change Tarzan (my silver tanimbar) though. I think its because he was already so well known on this forum, it would just be too weird. That and he is definitely the wild man....Tarzan suits him.

names

Postby aggiegirl » Sat Jul 14, 2007 5:07 pm

We always give our pets people names. That also means my kids won't name the animals something too random like "Spoon." Since skinks don't come to their names (Pele' doesn't yet anyhow!!!!), I take the liberty of changing names freely. Of course that means our name also "determines" the skinks sex (until proven otherwise!) My son wanted a boy and he named our first skink as such. My daughters want me to get a girl so we will christen our next skink with a girl name. How many other times do you get to "choose" a pet's sex!

Hey! I'm getting a baby Northern from Zach as well. From Peaches and Niko's clutch. So does that mean we'll be related since our new babies are siblings? lol

Zach told me back in 2004 that Slurps will respond to his name. (Somewhere there's an actual video of it...)

Oh, and for the record, I prefer the name "Spork".

Kyle, you really need someone to restrict your name choices as well!
mom22wins (Is it Diane?), you and I have alot in common! I'll pm you! It will be a blast comparing notes on our babies!
Hey, I will try to teach Pele' his name then. (Although I think "he" is actually a "she!") I sit in the yard under a tree and read to my kids. I place him several yards away and he cruises through the grass (with his head up listening) until he finds us. He also comes out of hiding when he hears my voice (but not my kids) since I am the food source. I never realized how smart lizards really are. Pele' is only one year old (and I've only had him 6 months) so I can't imagine how much such long-lived lizards are really capable of learning. Anyone else have bluey tricks?

I'm not sure which clutch my baby will come from. I'm gonna go down there next week and check them out (I'm only about 45 minutes away from Zach). But our newbies will be either half siblings or full siblings. :-)

Definitely change the name to whatever you want....sometimes we think we should name them completely weird nicknames just so the person won't have a choice but to change it :hehe: because some people feel weird about changing the name. The only reason we call them anything is because we spend a lot of time with them and just end up calling them names to differentiate sort of based on their personality. We do usually call the smallest one runt though. This year, Peach had a super-hero runt...he's this little wirey acrobat and he's hilarious. He has a funny little head and big eyes. He's dark as can be right now (hasn't shed) but I'm excited to post him.

Slurpy is so smart...he continually surprises me. You know how people say mixed dog breeds are smarter than pure dog breeds? I wonder if the same is for IJ's since one theory is that they're a long-term hybrid animal.....

I have an Ex named Gus who had a cat named Spoon, and yes he was kind of a dog.
He also had a dog named Tire Iron, and 2 ferrets named Ping and Pong.

I used to ride a horse nicknamed Spoon, since he threw so many people they needed to be scooped up with a spoon. He came to the barn with the name Pal though
