Has anybody else ever had parasites?

Eeeeeew, I took my poor Chuff Chuff to the vet today just for general check up. (I've only had him exactly 2 weeks now) This is the wonderful Bluey I got from a friend of a friend. Today, I found out that my poor guy has been through Hell before I got him! His fecal showed he has hookworms and another microbial parasite, (forgot the name) so he gets daily baths (to get rid of the eggs) for a month, he needs to be on newspaper changed daily, and he gets Panacur 1xday for 3days, 10 days off and then again, 3days, off 10, and last time 3days to kill the whole cycle.
The vet I found is totally awesome, he's a Herp and Avian vet and has great experience. we took xrays to check the bone issues, and realized that his tail had been broken like in 4-5 places, and the spinal injury could be from that same situation, or possibly congenital. He has had broken ribs, and his right radius and ulna are very thick and deformed, likely from an infection. the Vet thought a dog may have gotten a hold of him and given him a rough shaking up. I was disgusted to think about what my Skink has been through! (if it wasn't a dog, it very likely means that he was rough treated by the idiot guy who malnourished him to begin with! Can someone be jailed for Skink abuse?
Has anyone else ever had to deal with parasites, and if so, what kind/how was it resolved? Any info is great, and I'll keep you all updated too.

Unfortunately those bast...well you know can't be jailed but im sure the members of this forum could teach him a good lesson!
I kinda hope it was a dog, its horrible to think of humans treating animals badly.

I hope your little chuff chuff is over his parasites soon, and im sure he is happy living with you now.

My Fiancee is British, and the name refers to Railway trains. My guy makes a little "Chuff" noise when he gets excited, and he's long like a little train.

I was afraid that he might be wild caught, but boy, is he a good sport! He's easy to give oral meds to, he eats well, and he's quite cuddly and very sweet natured for a wild caught guy. He really hates his bath time though. Maybe its the kitchen sink he hates?
Anyway, just FYI out there, hookworms are zoonotic, and can be passed on to people, but pretty much only if you eat their poop. However, the eggs are sticky, so everything needs washing down with soap to "unstick" everything. Gross!

My Northern had a horrible case of pinworms when I got him. I would set him on my lap and drop the meds on his nose. I would have a yummy treat nearby and that kept his tongue going so that he would lick the Panacur up. We had to treat him twice. He is great now. Glad you took him to a vet and he is getting great care now!

Awwww, Kyle,
I would totaly breed him/her, but the spinal damage and tail breaks are bad enough that it would probably not be safe for her, if my critters a female, and as I didn't want the vet to probe, (not that accurate with Blueys anyways, unless they're really older males) I'm not even sure of the gender. If its possible, I'll try and get the Xrays and post them as a general FYI for people to view.

No In Some Parts of australia we have deadly Ticks ....that fill there ears full..Also we have a female paralsis tick ,she lays hundred of eggs a week ..In babys they suck and poison them , robbing all the calcium , we call it jelly bone .When you pick them up they feel like jelly its very upsetting ..So they cant walk then meaning more ticks climb on the baby...If i ever see a wild BTS ..Iam compelled to get my tweezers out and get these horrible things off..Ive had them on me they have a poison saliva so you dont feel them bite .My brother had a tick that went for a warm spot around his belt ,and went inside him were it grew as fat as a grape ..He had to go into surgery ,some area,s are thick with ticks 80 ticks on 1 bobtail isn,t rare poor things ..Worms i worm mine and work with alot of bobies , only seen worms in stimpson pythons

This bobtail is close to the goldfield morph orange banded ,Note the female tick on the kneck..We sometime,s heat a pin up with a lighter , and tap in on there bum , they come out without breaking the mouth off. Pulling these off has to be learned as they have no head just a mouth piece,if left in there causes infection ..This is not the brown kangaroo tick, these can drop a donkey as hardy as they are, there a type of spider you need antivenom for this tick ...I hate them

Ian I wasn't saying there wasn't parasites in the Australian species, but here in the states, our guys really never see the native Aus parasites and problems, just the imports from the islands north of you where they collect all the poor guys.

I'm sure there's terrible bugs that try and eat blueys out there in Aus. That tick picture is sure evil. I loved it!

Totally! I've pretty much determined Sunny is female, and we determined Styx is male (Renee's Indo) last time he was here. I've also decided that Sunny is Indo, not Meruake, or mostly thereof anyway after a lot of thinking.

We tried breeding them last year but neither did anything.

Edward says he's going to start breeding Indos when (and if!!!) he ever gets back....

Parasites usually indicate a wild caught animal. He'll be right as rain after the worming is done. Did the vet give a tapeworm shot as well? Tapeworms may not be seen in a fecal, but are probably there also if other worms are present.

DeadEye, you really shouldn't burn a tick, oil, smother, or otherwise coerce a tick into backing out on its own. They regurgitate or vomit their stomach contents into the bloodstream. If they are carrying an infectious disease, the animal is much more likely to become infected. It is recommended to grasp the tick behind the jaws and pull out with a firm grasp.

I know you probably see plenty of animals that are covered in ticks (I do) and in those cases a dip is the only way to kill them fast.

Nope, I didn't get him tested for tape worm, as since I've had him, he's bulked up beautfully and is much more alert and healthy and active. I did my research an dgot him immediatly on a healthy diet (he was quite underfed when I got him and what he was fed wasn't proper for a healthy BTS, i.e. iceburg lettuce, crickets.)

I thought tapeworm made an animal scrawney and malnoursihed? If I notice any weight loss, I'll definitly have my vet check up on that though. Thanks for the heads up on that!
